hoosierbass07 Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I have one bait caster, Shimano Chronarch, with 14 pound Trilene XT on it. I have that on an Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 Winch seven foot crank bait rod. After three years of owning this bait caster I think I've finally got a rod and lure set up that lets me cast it with no back lashes and casts really really nice. Now I want to get a rod for Texas rigging worms and soft stick baits. I mostly cast five inch Yum-Dingers and seven inch Power worms on 3/0, 2/0, and 1/0 wide gap and regular round bend off set hooks. I also like using smaller worms and five inch lizards. The bullet weights I like to us are 1/16, 1/8, and 3/16 and some times a little larger and smaller. So would a seven foot Veritas 2.0 be good for Texas rigged using 14 pound line? I plan on getting another bait caster in the future that I will put 10 to 12 pound mono on. Also, which one would be best, medium, medium heavy or heavy? I really like my Veritas 2.0 Winch because it's seven foot long and I can cast crank baits a good distance. So now I want a seven foot rod that will let me cast my Texas rigged lures a good distance. shawnmc Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 I'd honestly look at an *** Black or the new Dobyns Fury. I think you will find them to be a little more sensitive. I'd you do go with a Veritas think about a medium or medium heavy. They tend to run a little more powerful then other rods. Quote
Ihatedirtbikes Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I just got a 7' veritas2.0 mh. I like it a lot for Texas rigging. I don't know if it's the length of the rod or the action, but the hook set is great . Anything under 2lbs seems to want to fly to me or skip the top of the water. Quote
Cgrinder Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I have a 7' M Veracity. It's quite alright with 5" Senko-style baits and Texas rigs including the weights you stated. I would certainly agree with your idea of dropping down to 12 or even 10 lb. line, depending on the situation. A MH Abu Garcia will likely be too much rod for the lighter weights. Quote

sprint61 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Get the mh it's not that bulky I have 3 they are great rods. It won't be to much for lighter weights as stated above, load your Rod up it will cast . I throw weightless pit bosses like a buzz-bait with mine all the time, and 1/8th oz buzzbaits and spinnerbaits. I use 15lb fluro, and by the way a 5" stick bait cast like a rock they probably come in at 1/4oz. Quote

kikstand454 Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 The 7'm/f veritas I have is the most versitile stick I own. It will do all those things and have plenty of backbone. It is good for t-rigging up to medium cover. If you're going to be around thick grass or pitching to bushes, then step up to the mh. 1 Quote
Ihatedirtbikes Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I caught 7 lmb in 2 hours on Saturday fishing a weightless senko. The mh veritas 2.0 was the perfect amount of rod for it. The senko is a little heavier than most other worm style baits, so maybe it is for smaller worms, but to say the mh is too much rod for a bait that gets 90% of its hits once it hits/or on the fall seems wrong to me. I also like to throw around a lot of cover and my local fishing area is infested with pads and hydrilla, so I like the stronger rod to pull them out of the mess. I am not saying a mh is better than a medium, but they are both useful tools depending on the environment you are in. Quote

keyvike Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 I have a 7ft. MH veritas 2.0 and yes it's closer to a heavy so I would look at the Med. action for what you want. Sensativity is fine for the 3/8 and 1/2 oz. jigs and texas rigs I toss on it but I have not tried one for lighter weights as I usually use a spinning rod for that. Quote

I noticed all of their casting Fury rods are medium heavy or heavy. Would a Fury Medium Heavy Fast 7 foot cast OK with 1/16, 1/8, and 3/16 bullet weights? Also, what Shimano rods would be good too for light Texas rigs? Quote
