Hey guys, Bryce here... I just graduated from school and just have been relaxing at home, not being lazy keeping up with the yard making sure things get done before parents get home... Anyways both my dad and step have been telling me I need to find a job which is common and I've applied but nothing yet, but they keep nagging and nagging and I understand they want me to work.

I'm just feeling pressured because all my friends are at home relaxing and chilling and fishing all the time and they've graduated, they're not lazy either tho.

The point is, I feel like my life will just be Same old same old every day, wake up for work go to bed and so on for the next day, I've never worked so is it that way? Or is it some what more relaxing where I'll still be able to have fun and fish with them and not be worn out, I'm not just worried about fishing in just worried I'll lose all my time to myself as well as family and it'll be completely different. I know I'm young and life hasn't fully started yet but can some of you guys inform me on how life will be once thing are settled and if I'll still be able to be myself and not worry about work? Thank you guys in advanced I appreciate it

Find a part time job. Even if you go a full time job it's 40 hours a week, that still leaves 16 hours a day to figure out how you want plan it

Sadly, that's is the utter truth!

Just yesterday afternoon I met this guy, about 30 years old at the lake and WOW was he ever mad.  He couldn't go fishing all morning because his girlfriend had to go all the way down to the welfare office, sit there for three hours just to get their food stamps, and he had to stay home and watch the three kids!

How unfair is that?

How do you "get a car", if you aren't spoiled and you don't have a job?

Who is going to pay for the gas, oil, insurance, etc.?

You may really want to find the "Can I Get Sponsored?" section!

Take a breather, man, lol. The truth is, you're going to make of your life what you want to make of it. If you want to constantly be financially strapped, have zero freedom to do almost anything you want in life - let alone things like owning a home or driving the car you want - you can probably get by doing the minimum. In 10 years, you'll realize you've wasted a lot of time and money, and that whatever bigger goals you begin to develop will be very difficult to achieve.

On the flip-side, if you make it a point to either earn a degree or learn a trade early on, and put your time in working to minimize your expenses/education costs, you'll not only have short term money to blow on fun things like fishing/girls/being a kid, you'll also be financially ahead so that the next 50 years of your life will be easier. Working hard, and smart early - and learning what it is to be ambitious with direction, should be your focus now. That way, you won't be screwed later when you want a house/wife/kids and things actually do get complicated.

When I was your age (holy crap - I just said that), i drove a beat to hell 10 year old Dodge Shadow that had a bumper that literally fall apart to the point where it was held on with duct tape. I worked since I was 13 (through high school and college), and once I got a good job - I worked even more to be good at it so that way I could afford the life I want. The thing is, I went from growing up very poor to being 31 and very comfortable with my life. I have a cool car. I can go on vacations to cool places. I had a sponsorship as an athlete in college that allowed me to travel the country and meet amazing people. Why? Because I busted I disagree to make it possible.

Now, I also have fishing buddies who just worked part time jobs so that they could put gas in the car, get on the water, and buy beer. Some of them have gone to jail. All but one (that I know of) still live in the same small town, and most still work the same crappy jobs and complain that they can't afford anything/life is hard. I genuinely get frustrated talking to them when I'm home visiting family because almost 15 years later they still don't get it. They will likely always be unhappy.

I'm sorry for using myself as an example, because it's not meant to be me bragging. It was just the easiest example I could give. Embrace the grind. You'll still have time for fun (hell, I did). Don't look back in 15 years and be angry. Nothing worth having is easy.

Unless you hit the lottery, or inherit a bunch of money, that is pretty much how things will go.  That's why you need to find out what you like to do and get a job in that field.

Sitting at home will accomplish little for you.

Getting a job will teach you tons about responsibility, a work ethic, and of course will provide you with some money.

Someday you'll have to think about paying for your own gas, car, home, and perhaps college.

Do yourself a favour and look hard for a job ;)

I'm 14, and got a job working for a lawncare company this summer. Today, with a high of 99 and a RealFeel of 104, it's gonna be a LONG day of work.

But I wouldn't quit for the world.

You've got the qualifications to become President. Learn how to play golf and borrow money to vacation in Hawaii.

You're feeling pressured?

Man, you ain't seen nothing yet.  Life gets more difficult as the years go by.  At some point you've got to learn to be independent, and take control of your life.  That is something you will never learn as long as you are dependent upon others to provide for you.

Unless, of course, you want to live life as a hermit.  Then you will be accountable to no one.

Welcome to life.

It hits you pretty hard when you're 17 or 18 and have never worked but suddenly, you're expected to. Sadly, I put a great deal of that blame on mom and dad for not encouraging you to get a job before you graduated.

You say:

all my friends are at home relaxing and chilling and fishing all the time and they've graduated, they're not lazy either tho.

LOL, yeah, they are. Last time I checked, "relaxing and chilling" is the textbook beginnings of full on laziness.

If you're not out there, working to get better, you're getting passed by the people who are.

I had no pressure, all I had to do was clean fish in my dad's market when I was 9 (never got paid, lol), paper routes, worked in drug stores, stocked shelves midnights at the A & P, repoed vacs and sewing machines, then I got serious and started a business.

Pressure is what people went thru during the Great Depression, many people like my dad quit school in the 8 th grade to help support the family.  Having 2 fulltime low paying jobs and still barely getting by.  My dad would tell me about picking up coal at the RR tracks, they could't afford to buy it to heat the home.  He made it along with millions of others just like him, simply because they didn't whine, just did what had to be done.

Give advice..........heck I've got my own problems.

I'm me every day. I still dress how j want to and act like myself. My job doesn't define who I am. It's just a job. Granted it's like having a giant disfunctional family. It is still a job. There are thousands of different jobs out there. If you are not going to college. Then go into a trade. It pays well and can give you plenty of free time. It can also consume your time.

I work 5 10hour days and 1 8hour day right now. I still have ample time to do what I want after work. I wake up at 430 to get to the job, then leave work at 420. I can still go fishing, hunting, and ride my Harley after work. If I so choose. Are you going to be working the hours I am? Probably not. So why not go get a job and get the parents off your back.

Relaxing and chiiling.

That's what you do after you've reached some of your goals, made some money, own a house, get married, have money in the bank.

Sounds like you're not quite there yet.  :myopic:

The sooner you start, the sooner you'll get there.

Get off the computer, and go. Get. A. Job.

This man is wise. If you are, you'll listen to him. You're grown now. It's time to get to work.

Lol, I started working at 11, and haven't stopped, save for the 4 months I was unemployed last year.

Get a job on a golf course, you wake up super early, but get done at 2 or 2:30.  That gives you plenty of free time while still getting a full day of work done.
Or start cutting grass in your neighborhood.  You can under cut the bigger lawncare companies, because you have no overhead (just do a good job).  $20-$30 per yard (depends on size/time)  give them a small discount for weekly service.  Plenty of big lawncare companies got their start by doing that
