Just a note to be safe when out on the water.

Seneca river after Cross lake in upstate NY.

2 guys fishing out of a kayak flipped and missing. No life preservers worn they say.

Don't go out in your yak without a floatation device.

It is a sad day.

Recovery operation at this point. Details can be read at Syracuse.com Always a good idea to wear a PFD, however, in this case; they were downstream and below a low dam with lots of turbulent water and undertow. Very tragic situation, which educates about the dangers of being in water downstream from a low dam. I looked at one of the you tube videos from the Ohio DNR and learned how treacherous these are, even though the dam is low, it is very misleading how dangerous these are.

Should have added, in case you do not read the article - it was two separate kayaks. First guy went under and second guy went to help and also went under. Very sad.

Sad indeed! There's no reason what so ever to not wear a life vest!!

Yes, PFDs should be worn; however, even with a PFD, a low head dam is not something anyone should get near. These two kayakers approached from the downstream side and were sucked under.

These dams look benign but are very dangerous.

With flows as high as they've been, a PFD would not have saved their lives. People underestimate the power of a dam.

Yes, this terrible tragedy will help educate anyone to stay clear of these dams. For those who have not read the articles - the dam was a low head dam which looked to be less than 10 feet high and the two brothers approached from the downstream side.

There are some you tube videos which illustrate why these dams are referred to as killing machines.
