Hi all,

I'm a newbie to fishing, I have been fishing 3 weeks and I started out with the St Croix Avid. I just got the G Loomis NRX 822s SYR and it is night and day, so much so, I wold like to replace my St Croix 7ft MF with a G Loomis NRX but I'm unsure what is the one I should get.

I plan to use this rod for spinning weightless worm fishing, using a Senko on a wacky rig.

My lake is pretty clear and not really know for huge bass and not too much weed.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe the popular opinion is the NRX983 is the best for fishing a Senko. It has to be the green one cause bass like green rods. LOL

Are you talking about casting or spinning?  My 893 is my favorite senko rod to date.  Sensitive and the perfect tip to sling senkos, but I don't use it for wacky rigs.  I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work, but I might opt for an 852 if I was wacky rigging exclusively because of the exposed hook.

You seem to be starting out the right way lol.

I don't have any input, except that the 893C (JWR) is a little too much rod (for my preferences) to fish 5" (unweighted) senkos.

Me too!  Enough extra for at least 10 NRX rods.  :teeth:

NRX893 gets weightless plastics duty for me, spinning I would go with the 852s/803s

In what way? I'm curious because it seems perfect for 5" senkos. Actually I don't have a problem casting 4" either.

Power.

I like my baits to *slightly* overload the rod while casting and retrieving.

I use a 853c for t-rigged stick worms. I have a 852s on the way which I also plan on using for wacky rigged stick worms, among other things.

so it comes down to power ? What's the difference between NRX Spinng gear with a rating of 2 vs 3.

Sorry to ask such noddy questions but this is comparative to teaching a child to walk.

Relatively speaking a 3 has more power than a 2.  Personally I think the 852 will be the best for the 5 inch senko given that you aren't around cover.  I have the 893c and the 852c (which I read is the same blank as the 852s) and I would prefer the 852s for your purposes.  It has plenty of backbone and has an awesome taper for casting 3/8 oz lures.  It loads deeper into the blank without feeling overpowered and the lighter action makes it easier to feel lighter lures. The 893 has a strong backbone and a light tip which feels a lot different when casting a Senko compared to the 852.

My recommendation is If you want to use total weight of 3/8 or under go with the 852.  If you think you will generally be casting lures of 3/8oz or greater I would go with the 3 power.

I have an 852c and absolutely love it for weightless mid-sized plastics around cover.  Lots of Slug-gos, worms and craws for sure and it does that perfectly.  I have it paired with an Alphas Ito Ai and could not be happier.  I can't imagine it being anything but awesome for Senkos although I'm not a Senko fan myself.

For 4" senkos the 852s is probably the greatest spinning rod ever imagined. I don't like throwing 5" on it though. I usually jump up to a baitcaster for that.
