I have a abu max series reel that if i spin the handle and push the thumb bar then turn the reel handle up it makes a clicking sound, almost like the pinion gear is trying to engage the spool shaft pin. Any ideas whats causing this or could it be something else??

Moderator would you please move this to the appropiate forum, i apologize...

Just a warning that you should never spin the handle on any baitcaster and then press the thumb bar. It can cause damage to the internals that you would not be happy with. The sound you hear is the reel moaning !!

Please don't do that to your reel. It's not a normal action and the reel was not designed to work that way. I know you see it in you-tube videos but just ignore them. You're right that what you're hearing is the spool drive pin shredding the bottom of your pinion gear. If you want to check operation of your reel press the thumb bar to disengage the spool, give the spool a flick with your thumb, stop the spool, and turn the handle to re-engage. That will tell if everything is working.

I did see it on youtube, they would time the spin after bearing upgrades. Only does it with reel turned up. Just checked all of them like yoh said and theres no noise and they work just fine...thanks guys!!

Glad i posted that as id never ever do anything to damage my reels, every one i own still looks 99.8 percent as good as the day i bought them, ive retired reels that got a noticeable scratch on them before, by retired i mean my sons now own them, thats one of my pet peeves is rod and reel care, function and cosmetics..
