I was curious if other states have a master angler award program or something similar. Here in the cornhusker state you can receive a certificate/award for reaching a length or a certain weight for each species, for largemouths that is a bass 20 inches or longer or 5lbs and over. Our bass dont get huge here,i think our state record is 11lbs 4oz but could be a few more ounces. I consider a 5 a really good fish, 6-8 a hog and anything over 8 a giant. But in all honesty if you catch a 5plus in any body of water besides a farm pond/private lake you have a really nice bass, for 95% of people anyways... on a side note ive always wondered why the further south you go the bigger bass get when they only live about half as long as they do in the north, i know the growing seasons longer on top of other factors for southern bass and a zillion other reasons but i would think they would get as big as their southern cousins but just take longer to grow to that size....

I'm in Virginia, and a Citation is 22 inches or 8 lbs, I'm a Virginia Expert Angler, as I've caught 10+ Citation Largemouth Bass, Master Angler is 5 Citations of different species, I have 4 of those so just one away from Master also.  I have Pickeral, Bluegill, Carp, and Largemouth.

I know that Michigan has one for walleye (30in.+), but am unsure about other species.

Closest thing to that here in Indiana is a "Fish of the Year" award for the longest (length) fish of every species submitted to the program over the course of the year. Last year I won for hybrid striped bass and buffalo.

22" for Largemouth, 21" for Smallmouth. Just about every species is eligible for Master Angler awards.

I know Virginia has a citation for almost every gamefish species and even rough fish, anything from Bass, Pickeral, Gar, Carp, Bowfin, Bluegill to Yellow Perch can get you a citation if they are of the proper size

We have a Master Angler Program here in show me state. I have one for a 30" 9.2 LB Walleye. For bass here it is very similar to where you are at the Master Angler requirements: Large Mouth 6 LBs 22", Small Mouth 3 Lbs 18", and Spotted 3 Lbs 18" for black bass species. Same here for sizes on Bass overall, a 5 pounder is a great fish!

Give someone a fish and they will eat for a day, teach them how to fish and they will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.

Holy crap. I am now on a mission. Thank you for this.

I've "achieved" all of the black bass qualifications, but I don't know what you need to qualify. Pictures of the weight and fish? I'll call them tomorrow and find out.

Here are the black bass qualifications.

Largemouth: 8 lbs

Smallmouth: 3.5 lbs

Spotted: 3.5 lbs

Yep we have them for all species, our walleye is 28" or 8 lbs if i remember correctly. I think its more of a recruiting deal to get young anglers more interested. I have a few for walleye and bass from when i was younger, but ive caught too many 5lb bass to count, ive probably forgot about more than i remember...if you dont keep the fish(wich is encouraged)you just need a witness and if released i think you get a pin or patch now..have a couple applications need filles out for my boys but havent got to it yet...

I dont think we have spots or blacks wichever you call them in nebraska, very few waters have smallies wich i love... man i miss home

I'm in the best area of the state for smallies. Two blue ribbon smallmouth streams within a few miles of my house. Bull shoals and Table Rock just 20 minutes away. It probably is geared toward the younger crowd. If the qualifications are that low, I'll probably not apply.

Low qualifications?? What do you mean?

You can get a "fish of Ohio" pin of you catch a fish that meets the requirements. There is one for like every fish. If you catch 3 different fish of Ohio species in a year you can get master angler. I heard the master pin is a bass this year and I was going to get it but I forgot till just not. I have never done any of the fish of Ohio stuff before but I could get the master pins every year easy. This year actually I had a fish of Ohio bass on New Years day lol. That was the last day of open water till this year.

I looked it up on the AGFC website. All you have to do is fill out an application. A picture is preferred, but it isn't a requirement. Meh, no thanks.

Thats how it is here, whats it matter what the requirements are? If you know your telling the truth...

Kansas we have one last time I checked you needed a picture as proof. My cousin sent in one for rainbow trout he said all they sent him was a piece of paper lol. It would be cool to get a master anglers award for every fish and frame them

Those who are not telling the truth, which is probably a lot, ruin it. I don't know dude. The fact that it doesn't have very many requirements makes it seem pretty corny.

I hear ya but if you know what you turn in on the application is true then who cares if people wanna lie to get one so they can brag or whatever, you know yours is legit. Here we have the choice to keep it and call game and parks dept. And an officer or whoever will meet you somewhere with a certified scale(grocery store or another place, all i can think of lol) and verify it. Not sure how that makes it more "official" if your honest and going that route kills a nice fish wich myself i dont want to and will not do..

I was not 100% accurate on requirements in nebraska, hope these show up....

Look at the last one, i think thats their way of discouraging keeping MA fish...

You get a certificate you could frame and they throw a pin in it for you if you receive the award based on length...

I wish I had access to your waters. They seem like they would be very fun to fish also. Lots of grass and shallow cover. I love the waters that I fish, but yours sound like heaven.

There's a lot of deep water structure ;)

On Toledo Bend? I wouldn't know, but I'd say you are right. That lake is gigantic. It would be cool to punch mats one day then deep crank structure the next.
