jbfilms Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Hello What would be the best fish finder/GPS for around $600 preferably in color and with downscan and/or sidescan imaging, as right now in the boat (which is a Triton 17 Pro) there’s only a Lowrance Mark 5x in the drivers cockpit. Would the Lowrance thru-hull transducer rule out other brand fish finders? Also I only fish freshwater lakes and rivers, and I would buy and have it installed at Millers Boating Center in Florida (where I bought the boat). Thanks Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 15, 2015 Super User Posted June 15, 2015 You can get a single unit that does Side Imaging, Down Imaging, dual beam 2D Sonar, GPS/Mapping with a single transducer and color display for less than $500. Humminbird Helix 5 SI GPS Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 Yup Hrlix is only unit in that price range if you want Si Quote
jbfilms Posted June 16, 2015 Author Posted June 16, 2015 Isn’t the built in Lowrance incompatible with humming bird? My dad was suggesting the Lowrance Elite-7 Chirp, is Lowrance StructureScan worth it in the long run? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 16, 2015 Super User Posted June 16, 2015 The Mark series is incompatible with any other unit of any brand. It is a less expensive stand-alone unit. Compatibility means they will share stuff with other units The Elite series is NOT Structure Scan compatible. The Elite 7 CHIRP is available with or without GPS/mapping. It does 2D sonar and Down Scan. If you want Structure Scan which is Side Scan and Down Scan, that takes the HDS series. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted June 16, 2015 Super User Posted June 16, 2015 You can use the Lowrance 83/200 kHz transducer for 2D sonar with a Humminbird unit. Just need the MotorGuide Humminbird adaptor. Quote
Comfortably Numb Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Consider Raymarine Dragonfly units if you dont need side imaging Quote
