Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 14, 2015 Super User Posted June 14, 2015 I have a leak on this part connected to the carborator, its the part the fuel line attaches to. What is this called and why would it be leaking? Should I just go ahead and replace it and see if that works, my dad said there only like 5$ online... Its leaking around the circle where it connects to the carborator. Apparently its called a carborator cover strainer... Quote

If your Father says the part is only $5, change it out. I'd be careful when tightening the screws. You don't have to crank them down too tightly, and try to tighten them as equally as you can. If you have access to a torque wrench that does inch-pounds, use that. I use one on my motorcycle carbs.You should also determine if there's supposed to be an O-ring on the center screw. I've never seen a carb with one like that, but if that's on the bottom of the carb, I might call it a bowl drain. Not sure on that one.Good luck. 1 Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted June 14, 2015 Super User Posted June 14, 2015 That's the fuel pump and the blue piece is the filter cover. The center screw removes it and there is a fine mesh screen under it. It's very common for them to crack from over tightening. Get you a new one and the gasket. If bad enough, it will start sucking air and won't run. 2 Quote

Thanks guys! Glad to hear it. I read your other thread and was really bummed when you were having engine problems with your new boat. Hope you have many years of good service from that new rig. Take care of it, and it'll take care of you. Looks like you're off to a good start. I have an '89 Merc 25HP with a shot lower unit. The power head is good. Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 15, 2015 Author Super User Posted June 15, 2015 Yeah I replaced all the fuel lines, completly cleaned the carburetor, bought new gaskets, replaced the spark plugs, and then fixed this leaking thing and now it's finally running again... It wasn't going as fast as it should the days before it finally quit so maybe that problem has also been solved, I'll have to just get it out on the water to know for sure because I didn't get a chance today... I also fixed the electric start by replacing the solenoid, but after all this now the electric choke decided to stop working.... Fix one thing and another pops up! But hey atleast it's running now! 1 Quote

I even got to put it in the water for little. I found another thing that needs fixing though, there's some kind of line that goes to the back of the engine that looks like it carries air and it has a small leak. Quote

Just used the manual at first start of the day & never needed it again till next new day.. How's the impeller look? You inspected that? It's something you wanna keep a eye on. ( water pump ) sounds like your learning and making progress.. I wanna see some dag gone pics of that cypress laden lake, your boat and a stringer full of 5 pound fish, c'mon C&G! The descriptions you give leave a whole lot to be desired.
