Wurming67 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Which brand of polarized sunglasses that are under $100 do you think is best value? Quote
DailyBassin' Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 I had a pair of Arnettes that served me very well. I just recently bought a pair of Oakleys for 200 (so overpriced) and the Oakleys not only look cooler, but I feel the tint made it easier to see in the water and just in general. But Arnette is a good company and I bought mine for 50 from there so I reccomend you use them Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 13, 2015 Super User Posted June 13, 2015 There is a 40% off coupon out there but these are some of the best I have ever used http://www.sierratradingpost.com/serengeti-rimini-sunglasses-polarized-photochromic-polar-phd-lenses~p~6060y/?filterString=s~-serengeti-sunglasses%2F&colorFamily=04 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 13, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 13, 2015 I picked up a pair of Berkley glasses at a Wall Mart while traveling for like $20, and I gotta tell ya those things are pretty darn good for $20! As good as the mainstream, brand name "fishing" glasses? No, but for everyday, glare eliminating, polarized glasses for the money you can't beat em. Mike 1 Quote
zeth Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 There is a HUGE difference between sub 100 glasses and the more expensive glasses. My 2 cents on glasses: Never buy online! This is because you need to find a brand/pair of glasses that fit your face just right to not allow excess light in, to not put too much pressure on your face, to not rest on your cheek bone, to look good etc... For me it is Maui Jim. $280 for a price reference. Optical clarity especially when you get into glass lenses. Cheaper lenses have a lot of imperfections in the surface of the lens that your naked eye will not pick up necessarily unless you know what to look for. Durability again especially when you get into glass lenses. Warranty Lens colors optimized for specific conditions is a bonus with higher end glasses ....... When wearing cheapo polarized glasses I get headaches. When I wear my Maui Jim's I do not. For the record I also used to own Smiths until I left them on top of the car. They also had a glass lens the polarchromic lenses that adjust based on the light. I switched because I found the Maui Jims to fit my face better and they seemed to be slightly better to me. Costa, Maui Jim, Smith... all good brands with glass lenses which are much much much harder to scratch. If you can not afford nearly $300 glasses the Smiths are closer to $200 and if that's still to much I suggest you go spend under $50 on whatever (copper or darker amber lens for all around) and then start saving for a high quality pair. I believe there will not be much difference between a sub $50 pair and a sub $100 par except for price. When you get them you will then have a backup pair which is always good. My backups always stay in the sunglass holder in my car in case I forget the more expensive ones which will go into my tackle bag for the day or my head. Good luck, there are many options. Quote
Silas Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 In my opinion, my eyesight is the ONE thing I'll never gamble on. Cheap sunglasses are just for kids getting some SWAG by wearing them on top of their head or behind their neck like college wannabes. I have Wiley's , the kind the Army use, for fast boat riding. They have removable magnetic gaskets to protect the eye. Polycarbonate lens for protection against flying objects. ( glass will blind you if it shatters while on) Next would be Costas in 580G. Glass in either blue or green. Blue cuts most glare from large expanse of water. Green for lazy bayous or rivers. There are many styles and can be gotten at quite a discount on line. Lastly the Maui Jim in glass with brown bronze tint or dark gray. Make sure they cup your eye as harmful rays enter from the side. I've gotten several pair online at much reduced prices. For your eyes sake, just save up and buy quality glasses. Some people say "I never buy good or expensive sunglasses because I LOSE them all the time!" Well then, PUT YOUR BIG BOY PANTS ON AND TAKE PROPER PRECAUTIONS!! Quote

Yes, they're legit Costas, not knock-offs. Gotta be a "legit" seller. Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted June 14, 2015 Super User Posted June 14, 2015 I'm on my second pair of Calcutta $20 polarized fishing glasses in amber. And I'll buy another before long. And I'll still be $50 ahead of most people who bought the cheapest pair of Costa or Maui Jim. No offense to them. If you can afford that more power to you. But I got mouths to feed and I can see fish underwater just fine. http://www.calcuttafishingstore.com/products/sunglasses/steelhead--sunglasses-tortoise-frame-amber-lens-sh1atort.htm $20.99 (you save $4) Ha! 1 Quote

Big Swimbait Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I've now bought 2 pair of Costas from this site. You have to check often for the best deals. But you can't beat 580P's for $68.00! Got them in less than a week both times. http://www.steepandcheap.com/gear-cache/shop-costa-on-sale/CDM004P-MACRWBLTR Quote

Allen Der Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I really like my Wiley X sunglasses that I got for free (plus $15 S&H) with a Abu Garcia reel about 5 years ago. I think they go for around $80 new. My next pair will have the facial cavity seals Quote
