Catch 22 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Another thread reminded me of a few things that I experienced. Years ago before sellers knew how to package fishing rods for shipment,I hear the doorbell.I looked out the kitchen window to see the mail lady haulin it back to the truck.She jumped in and virtually burned out the drive way???.I went to the door to see my two fishing rod packs in a shape that could mean only one thing==both were broken. The lady knew my passion for fishing and she just didn`t want to see my reaction.All turned out well. So I get a call from the Post Office one Saturday morning informing me that I need to get up there immediately. A butcher friend complied to my request for some deertails that had been shipped about 4 days ago. About 30 of them just cut off and not deboned were a box that was dripping blood and stinking real bad. The RR driver refused to deliver to the box and I don`t blame her Lastly.my son shipped a pack of pictures of the grandkids that didn`t show up for 6 months. They were left in mailbox in another cul de sac with an identical street address. The pictures spent the winter in the box of two snow birds that spend the winter in Fla. Overall I say the postal service does a good job. Oh yeah one more . The mail box bashers were busy one night and had knocked mine right off the post.I threw it out in the middle of the yard and went on to work.I returned home to see my days mail in the box where I had left it. Best mail man ever. The bashers got me and many others two more times. My neighbor and I spread the word the word amongst some likely teen suspects that the feds would be the least of their worries if we caught them at it. The bashing stopped. Tell me your story. Super User F14A-B Posted June 13, 2015 Super User Posted June 13, 2015 On board USS Nimitz, ( and other carriers ) we often got mail postmarked 3 days earlier than received.. Distance? About 6000 miles, same with care packages etc.. We even got mail when launching alpha strikes. There were plenty of times we had 2 day delivery! Those were the golden days of us mail delivery.. wnybassman Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 One of my early Ebay transactions many years ago I sold a random lot of Berkley Power Baits to a lady in Florida. She got the package and emailed a complaint to me stating she received a package containing skin care products and not the worms. Hmmmm, odd. I had her describe the packaging to me and it was indeed the box I sent the worms in, no doubt about it. I obviously refunded the money and the shipping to ship it back to me. I ended up selling the skin care products for many times what I had originally sold the worms for. lol Postmaster here at the time said what likely happened was a couple packages busted open at the plant and without any kind of packing list, they shoved contents back in the boxes (wrongly) and away they went. Super User SirSnookalot Posted June 13, 2015 Super User Posted June 13, 2015 I've had problems with international shipping, getting 2+ orders per month it's just not always going to be 100% perfect. I've had customs return items to the sender, packages that stay in the sorting facilities without movement for long periods of time. Domestically I've had very few problems. I had rod delivered broken, clearly the fault of the vendor's packaging and not USPS or UPS's handling. Most packages I get I have to sign for, this is both good and bad. Good that's hand delivered and can't be stolen or damaged by rain due to just leaving it on the doorstep. Inconvenient if I'm not there to receive, means a trip to the PO. Not being home Friday or Saturday I have to wait for Monday morning, my PO is closed on the weekend, years ago it was open. Quote

Many congratulations were given out along with a large amount of harassment on the state of today's snail mail. You had to give the guy credit though as he did his best to defend his former employer, until I asked him one simple question. Super User Sam Posted June 16, 2015 Super User Posted June 16, 2015 With so many millions of items passing through our postal service, and the majority of them being junk mail, one can project the probability of something going wrong during processing. The issue is not what goes wrong but what goes wrong with our mail. Everyone says that UPS, Fed-X and other private companies should deliver our mail. But once these private companies start delivering all of the mail the same problems we have with the postal service will occur again as the probability of having damaged or lost mail will always be with us. Have to give some "Boola Boola's" to the postal service as they have done a lot to streamline the process to make sure the mail goes through without any problems. Quote

A few years ago I ordered a 1/4lb of monkey picked oolong, along with some other teas. This oolong cost me about $6 shipped, pretty cheap. When my order arrives, the oolong tea is missing but there is a note on the invoice that it is out of stock and will ship directly from the manufacture. A week later when I get home from work there is a smelly Asian man on my front porch with a small package in his hands. He hands me the package and walks back to a rental car. He said nothing, only smiled. I open the package and there is my missing tea. I call the Special Teas to thank them for the delivery. Then they tell me the delivery guy was the owner of their supplier in Nepal. He flew here from Nepal, sat on my front porch for 5 hours, delivered my tea and flew back to Nepal. I was dumbfounded. The sales rep said the guy from Nepal took his tea seriously and was sorry he did not get it to me sooner. All that for a $6 bag of tea. It was quite good though. 1 Quote

The only had tea but I don't think I could drink anything that comes from something that is pooped out.... Ya, not the best strategy but they had great tea and good prices. I wish they were still in business. They got bought out by some big tea seller and doubled or even tripled some of there prices. They had a China Red that was second to none. It you use to be my daily go to tea. I do miss them. Quote
