Wondering who all has used this rod and opinions are. Looking for a new spinning rod and Amazon has these for $65 free shipping. Thanks.

I own a 7' M/F HMG & very happy with my purchase! I was looking at the HMX series because of the price point but the sales rep talk me into the HMG for $20.00 more because of the better warranty & a better rod over all! I'm sure for $65 you won't be disappointed with a Fenwick HMX rod :)

I have a 7ft. Med. HMX spinning rod i purchased last summer. Made a few outings with it and it has now been relegated to a backup rod only. I found it to be too heavy, unbalanced,  and not sensitive enough for me. There are many better choices out there in the sub 100$ range.  I replaced it with a Veritas 2.0 and very pleased with that.

Save your money and go with an HMG or wait for 4th of July sale and get it. There are some good options at that price that I know are on clearance but it depends on the length, power and action of the rod you want. FFO has a 6'9" medium light Abu Garcia Verdict spinning rod for $60, that is a decent buy for you and will be better than the HMX but you didn't list what model you want so it is hard to give you any more information other than you can do better.

I was a big fan of the Hmx 10 or so years ago, and with each "new and improved" version I liked them less and less than the previous model they replaced. The current ones I am not fond of at all and couldn't get rid of them fast enough. I had the 7' M, 7'6" H casting, and a 7' ML spinning, and of the three the only one that I even tolerated was the spinning rod. My best description of the whole series is heavy, poorly balanced, inconsistent power ratings, and they felt odd in my hands. I am generally a fan of pure fishing rods/reels, but this line is a dud. For the same money, staying with pure fishing, I'd take an Abu vendetta, and I wouldn't think twice about grabbing a Berkley lightning rod, or lightning rod shock over the HMX.... Or Eagle for that matter (I don't like the latest version of those either). Seems like pure fishing is underachieving in the value rod market pretty badly with Fenwick, which is odd, because they knock it out of the park with Berkley and Abu.

My overall experience with Fenwick has been nothing but positive. I have yet to see a rod that it is not worth the money from them.  I think for $65 you can't go wrong.

Like others have said, spend the extra and get the hmg

I have one HMG casting rod left. I'm going to sell it. It's not for me but you may love them.

As I told you, the HMG is head and shoulders above the HMX and I'm a Fenwick fan. What is your rod budget and what are you looking for specifically when it comes to length, power, and action? That will help a lot as often times there are sales that not all know about but it is usually a specific model, and as for certain rods, there may be a good one in the line of rods that generally aren't very good. I have an old Quantum Super Light spinning rod, I paid $230 as I got it when they first came out, it is a 6'6" medium power with a fast action and if it came out again today I'd gladly pay the same price knowing what it is. On the other hand, the 7' medium power, fast action spinning rod is horrible, it is very tip heavy to the point it is hard to fish with so if you asked me about those rods in general, I could tell you both good and bad as I don't know what you're looking at model wise, so if you let me in to your budget and specific rod specs, we would be able to find you something. Or are you not really looking, you just saw this rod with the Fenwick name for $65 and thought it might be a good deal to take advantage of while not really looking for a rod in the first place?

Thanks for the reply.  I am looking to stay under $80.  I am looking for 6'6 medium rod for finess fishing.  i fish out of a kayak and my 7ft rods are not as easy to use sitting in the kayak.  I knew fenwick made good rods and saw this one that cheap and thought i would get a feel if anyone had used one.

I have a dozen or so Fenwicks. HMG bait casters and Eagle GT spinning. Great rods for the money

HMX is a broomstick compared to the HMG.  HMG is a much better rod than the HMX.

Totally agree. The HMG is such a nicer rod than the HMX.

I strongly dislike my hmx, and I paid $30 for it. I don't even think it was worth that. I have the 7'9" extra heavy model. I bought it to have something to start throwing big swim baits on. Now it just sits and collects dust

Good rods but tend to be a bit tip heavy

Want a Fenwick??

Look for a Techna AV.

IMHO The best rod Fenwick ever made.

I'd put that up against most current models of any current brand.
