JayB Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I havent been building rods all that long, only about 5 years, and I mainly just build for myself and select friends. I have always used U40 Dura Gloss LS Supreme. I was thinking of trying something new and was curious what you guys are using? Also what is the shelf life of the 2 part epoxies? I drill a hole in the top and let the syringe inserted in the bottle all the time if that would make any difference. Thanks guys, Jason Quote
ernel Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 As far as how long will the two part epoxies last. There is no shelf life on epoxy. The resin will slightly discolor over time, but will not go bad. It will be something that you would not want to use on a light colored blank or light thread, but would not show up on a darker background. If the resin is left in a cold environment, it may crystallize, but can be placed in the microwave and nuked in 10-15 second blasts and stirred between each trip in the oven. The resin will change back to its normal consistency. I personally use Fex Coat lite, but others use Threadmaster. Both are quality products. It is all in what works for you. Eric Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 What ernel said..... As long as the resin doesn't freeze it will last a long, long time. I use Flexcoat lite and hi build depending upon the application. Can't compare to anything else as Flexcoat was the first I ever used and have not found a reason to change. I warm it up, and mix in a PacBay mixer for 4 mins. Finish always turns out nice. Eddie Quote
Diablos Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 I use Aftcote on my rods because of the long work time. With that being said, it needs to spin for 5+ hours to make sure it doesn't sag. Quote
