hoosierbass07 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 So I'm just starting to get into drop shotting for bass. I tried it seriously for the first time a few nights ago bank fishing from a dock and was happy when I caught a few small bass and had some bites. That got me hooked, what a fun way to fish. So I'm wondering, what is every ones favorite soft plastic you use when you drop shot? I bought a pack of some Gene Larew Tattle Tails over the winter and have never used them before. I don't even remember why I bought them. I must have thought I was going to do some drop shotting for bass this summer. Anyway, I tried them and they are cool. Those things float absolutely horizontal when nosed hooked. I have never seen a plastic float so horizontal before. Those Tattle Tails seem awesome. Also, how do you manage the line when you drop shot? I'm finding it's a big pain to carry around a drop shot rod with that weight below the hook. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted June 11, 2015 Super User Posted June 11, 2015 I've got a few go to baits for drop shotting. The Berkley Havoc Bottom Hopper Jr. is a decent bait along with a Missle Baits Fuse, Strike King Dream shot and Mag Dream Shot as well as the Strike King Baby Rodent. It's hard for me to pic a favorite since they each produce well in different situations. Quote
Schuyler co Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Ilike nose hooking roboworms and zoom finesse worms...in thicker weeds I like a zoom trick worm and Pitt boss with a 1/0 EWG hook and t-rig the bait. I don't cinch the weight on the line until I'm ready to fish Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted June 11, 2015 Super User Posted June 11, 2015 Jackall I-shad and cross tail shad are far and away my best. Next would be roboworms and FX sculpins. I have tried over 50 different dropshot baits over the last 3 years. These are the 4 that I have the most of on hand. If I could only pick one it would be the I-shad 1 Quote
hoosierbass07 Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 This is sort of cool or funny. I went bank fishing this afternoon around 4pm from a dock at a clear water strip pit. A few years ago I bought two soft plastics that I've tried to catch bass with and have had zero luck - the Jackall Cross tail shad and Reaction Innovations Trixi Flirt. So I drop shot both of those today and actually caught bass on both! It blew me away to finally catch bass (small ones but still bass) on those two soft plastic lures. The funny thing is now that I've looked them up online, I find the Cross Tail shad was made to drop shot. I only Texas rigged it in the past with no success. But with the drop shot, I caught some bass. lol. Quote
dgretz Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Couple nights ago I tried some watermelom Jackall cross tails I'd had for a couple years. Caught a mess of LM and was down to my last 2. Tried a green I-shad. Nothing. Tried a green Zoom Meathead. Nothing. Put the cross tails back on and caught 2 bass in the next 3 casts. Never had an experience like that before. Ordered six more packs from TW that night. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted June 13, 2015 Super User Posted June 13, 2015 Good to hear fellas! Between the cross tail shad and I-shad you should be able to get bit. Quote
DaleGribble Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Roboworms. Doesn't matter the color but I always have a dark, a red and a blue version Quote
TorqueConverter Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Powerteam Lures Hammer shads and Havoc Money Makers are good drop shot baits as well. 1 Quote
zeth Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 First things first. Get yourself some Roboworms. Start with the 4" Fat. in whatever colors you want. Then get some 6" Fat and start experimenting because a lot of the time many different baits will work and sometimes they will hit only one particular bait. I have had luck drop shotting various Keitech baits as well. Quote
Bass&PanMan Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 KVD Dream Shot or strike king 3x elaztech finesse worm if you want a great floating bait Quote
*Hank Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 Another vote for Roboworms! Best drop shot bait out there in my opinion. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted September 9, 2015 Super User Posted September 9, 2015 I like the original non - fat Roboworms in 4" & 6" lengths with a Gammi #2 split shot / drop shot hook thru the nose . Quote
livetofish28 Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 Gammy #2 spitsot/dropshot or the owner mosquito hook. 6# fluorocarbon and a roboworm in blues greens or browns. the reaction innovations flirt is great as well. tight lines Andrew Quote
