Hey guys, used to live in texas and was a pretty avid square bill user, but since relocating to florida and fishing more shallow and dense vegetation lakes im having a hard time finding a good place to fish my square bill. What are your thoughts on fishing a square bill around a lot of cover, just not something im used to doing, used to use around docks, wood, and rock. Not much of that around the lakes I fish most here. Any help would be appreciated, my confidence bait took a hit. Thanks.

Get yourself some Mann's Baby 1 - crankbaits or some Spro Baby Fat John 50's. Not saying you still can't throw squarebills, because i'm sure there is riprap in certain lakes and reservoirs down there but around grass you would do much better with a wakebait style crank.

You have grass... throw it around the grass.... use braid if you have to, and rip it out when it stops "vibrating".  Should be fun after you get the hang of it.

Also, maybe try a 3/8 oz chatterbait... it may become your new favorite "squarebill"

I heard that ;-)

Plugs with exposed trebles took the same hit after we moved from Georgia to Florida.

We spend the majority of time working vegetation, but there are open water opportunities in Florida.

In early summer, plugs can be effective over shellbeds, also at creeks mouths after a hard rain,

and for suspended bass in fall when they're chasing wads of bait.

As mentioned above, the vibe jig (chatterbait) has taken up a lot of the crankbait slack.

Sell them and buy lipless baits. Rip em through that grass with braid. Bam, new confidence bait!
