BASSPATROL247 Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Has anyone ever used a willow leaf etc...blade for a trailer on a spinnerbait? I fish a lot of water that is very stained at best and thats after ice out, was thinking the xtra flash and thump may catch more fish???? Any thoughts? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 11, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 11, 2015 I've seen spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and jigs with a willowleaf blade attached to the hook bend by a swivel and basically attached like you would a trailer hook. I've never done it but I could see times when it would be effective. Quote
BASSPATROL247 Posted June 11, 2015 Author Posted June 11, 2015 I use a blade on jigs when i swim them alot and catch fish but never seen anyone use it on a spinnerbait, im gonna try and see wjat happens, just teyin to think outside the box.. Quote
Super User Raul Posted June 11, 2015 Super User Posted June 11, 2015 Add a boot tail swimbait as trailer if you want more thump. Quote
shanksmare Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 The late Jack Lewis made a spinnerbait similar to what you describe. You can read about his version here: http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/lure_modifications.html I have experienced some success with this spinnerbait. It really looks great when you stop it and let it fall. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 11, 2015 Super User Posted June 11, 2015 The only trailer I add to a spinnerbait is a hook. Quote
Mxtaylor Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 Add a boot tail swimbait as trailer if you want more thump. I do this a lot when I want to slow down the spinnerbait too. My only problem is every ten casts, the boot will get caught on the tip of the hook during the cast. Willow leaf trailer isn't a bad idea! Quote
papajoe222 Posted June 13, 2015 Posted June 13, 2015 Yes and no. I've added a Colorado blade to the back of a single Colorado bladed spinnerbait so it gives of multiple/different 'sound' vibrations. I don't see where the added flash of a willow blade would be beneficial in a low visibility situation. Then again, you never know until you give it a go. Quote
