Never used a shimano but i will say the tourney lite is an awesome reel, just got 2 of them and i am really impressed. That being said all my other reels cost about 90 bucks and under so they are my first 150-200 dollar reels so i cant compare them to anything.. not sure what price reels you are used to but i think the lews are very nice... SenkoGuru Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 If you are already really enjoying the Curado I then you will also love the CI4. Those are both top of the line reels and you can not go wrong with either. I think the Shimano will be a better reel but it is also $75 more on retail but as has already been said do not pay retail for either one, they can be had for much less. Quote

WdyCrankbait Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I have the Lew's Tournament Lite SS and some older Shimano Curado E's First, the Lew's Tourney Lite has the best casting control I have every used. Absolutely, the best hands down, any conditions it will cast a long way. I have not had any problems with it, although I was concerned when I bought it. The one down side I have with the Lew's is this, I'm a big guy, 6'-4" 240ish and the handle on the Lew's is like 85mm so, the "handle gear ratio," is a little too small for me. I did add the 95mm handle to it and that seemed to have solve the problem. For the Shimano, I have not used that reel, but it's a Shimano, you're paying for the name and pedigree of their reels. It's kind of like buying a Toyota, or buying a Mercedes. You are not going to wrong with either, just what is your budget telling you. Shimano, and Diawa have been around for a long time because their reels last. PS, I have seen Lew's Tournament Lite's for $135, in fact I just checked that website and now they are $139.99 Wdy 1 Quote

ibobpeb Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I have both Shimanos and Lews reels and I find myself fishing the Lew's 9 out of 10 times. The Lews just casts farther and has a better braking system, IMO. For me, any reel $300 and below, Lew's wins. Any reel $301 and above, Shimano. Quote

I got my CI4 at the end of the season last year and maybe used it 3 times so I was not totally experienced with it yett. I had said that I liked it more than my Curado I's but I was not sure if it was worth the extra money. However I have a lot more experience with it now and I must say I think it is definitely worth the extra money. My only wish for the reel is if the offered a few more reel speeds such as a 5 gear and maybe another 7 gear reel but with an IPT of 30". I love 7 gear reels but the 7:6:1 with the 32" IPT is just a tad a little faster than I like Quote

I've used the Team Lite to cast light lures 1/8th - 1/4th ounce and it does it extremely well with no backlash. It's just as good as my Daiwa Pixy for finesse applications. edit: just realized we're talking about Lite and not TEAM Lite which is about $40 more. It's worth the upgrade though. Quote
