Super User J Francho Posted June 10, 2015 Super User Posted June 10, 2015 ...from a moderator Instead of proudly posting "IBTL" how about doing us a favor and reporting the post, instead of bumping it to the top? When you do that little favor, it cuts our workload in half. If we do in fact "lock" the thread instead of removing it altogether, you can be sure we delete your "IBTL" posts. Thanks! 4 Quote
FlipSide Posted June 10, 2015 Posted June 10, 2015 In before the lock jk.. I normally skip over but if it will help I'll start reporting 1 Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 11, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 11, 2015 How do you report from the mobile version? Scroll to the very bottom of the page and select "Full Version". Then it's just like the screen you get on a PC. Quote

As someone who pleads guilty for making these kind of posts in the past, I promise to stop if it helps you out. Now how about a return favor? It has become a real pain to try to figure out if or when we are responding to one of the many children posting on these forums. The subject of giving the adults here their own restricted area (like the kiddies supposedly have) has already been shot down, so can't we at least be given the ability to tell how old a poster is? As a side benefit, maybe Glenn could find Clearasil wanting to become a sponsor! 2 Quote

Just click on their screen name and you can check if they have it posted or not. 1 Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted June 11, 2015 Super User Posted June 11, 2015 A lot of members, especially the younger ones, post their age in their profiles. Just click on their screen name and you can check if they have it posted or not. Are you talking about posters such as "coreyshanahan" who has made three posts, including two where he is begging for sponsors? No age listed, but I have the feeling the reason he joined was because Mom cut off his weekly allowance. That one is too easy. But I'll take your word for it that the kiddies all post their ages. When I see a poster with a blank profile, I'll assume that they are an adult and will reply based on that premise. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 11, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 11, 2015 You're right, not everyone does, can't force people to post personal information if they don't want to though. Just thought I'd mention it in case you were unaware that some do post their ages up. 1 Quote

It generally has nothing to do with age, though. :eyebrows: :eyebrows: 6 Quote

Super User senile1 Posted June 12, 2015 Super User Posted June 12, 2015 I appreciate this thread. "IBTL" is a mostly useless post and provides little information or benefit to anyone. Sometimes I see "IBTL" posted on threads that are actually legitimate. I'm glad a moderator has addressed it and provided a more beneficial response. 2 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted June 12, 2015 Super User Posted June 12, 2015 I thought we were only supposed to use the report feature if it was spam... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted June 12, 2015 Author Super User Posted June 12, 2015 I thought we were only supposed to use the report feature if it was spam... You'd be wrong with that assumption. It's used for ANY rules violation, or something you'd like brought to our attention. There are almost 50K members, and millions of posts. There are six of us. 3 Quote
Cgrinder Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Can confirm, reporting works. Reported someone being a D and it was handled promptly. 10/10, will report again in the future. 1 Quote

I do not want to rock boat and wanted to ask why there are only 6 moderators? Wouldn't the addition of more ease the load? There are several well spoken, seasoned BR members that I would love to see as moderators. Just sharing my observation. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted June 13, 2015 Author Super User Posted June 13, 2015 Sure more would lighten the load, but really we have one or two on at all times. It's more about time frame coverage than numbers. Quote

This I agree with, I don't agree with Lund Explorer even though he is my idol. Everyone is entitled to express their opinion or ask a question regardless of age. Moderating, interesting subject. I can certainly understand a thread locked and posts deleted due to policy infringements. I do not understand locked threads where no infraction has occurred. Just saying the topic has been covered pretty well eliminates a member from expressing his/her opinion, not every one is signed on daily. Members IMO are the most important asset of any forum. 2 Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted June 13, 2015 Super User Posted June 13, 2015 Thanks for this Jon! While there will always be varying opinions on what we, the members, think is post-worthy the one thing I will always believe in Is no matter the topic, nor how many times It has been discussed, there's a possibility that It's new to someone and If one person learns something for that particular fishing related post then It's useful. 2 Quote
