as the title suggests, i was thinking about getting one of the three. i will be throwing mainly spinners and chatters and some topwater. maybe even some jigs or t-rigs here and there, but i'll mainly be using it for the spinners.

assuming dobyns....734

FWIW...I have been using a 735C MH XF FH for everything this year (T-rigs, cranks, topwater, spinner baits, jigs) and love it. But of the three you list I would have to go 733 MH.

I bought the 703C for that exact application. However I didn't realize it was split grip. I like it a lot and think it handles spinner buzz and chatter baits well. However because the split grip I'm prob getting rid of it. I have it up in flea market for trade but you could PM me if anything if you're interested.

734 will be prefect!

Really? A Heavy? That's a lot of rod if you throw a 1/4oz spinner

734 is the best option. Dobyns over rates their rods, a 4 power is a medium heavy instead of a heavy and a 3 power is a medium instead of a medium heavy.

I prefer a MH for all-around use.  Don't own any Dobyns, but based on this statement, I also would go with the 734.

I own

703

733

704

The 704 is my do everything rod. If I'm just going out for a little bit to hit the banks. That's the rod I grab. It's labeled as a heavy, but with the soft tip it doesn't act like a heavy. It gets my vote.

For a point of reference the 734 Dobyns feels less powerful than a MH St. Croix...  Very close though.

I have all three rods , for whats its worth I would say the 703 for smaller Texas rigs , lighter spinners ,  lighter spinner baits  and is  best option for top water especially for more precise spots . The 733 is probably the best over all rod for all applications if you simply wanted one multi purpose rod. IT could be used  for lighter & heavier Texas rigs  and lighter &  heavier chatter baits , spinner baits and larger top water baits . The 734 will work but to me feels a little cumbersome for top water , but as far as heavier jigs , spinner baits , Texas rigs this is the rod you need to consider , if you need some backbone to winch out or pull out of cover there is no better option .

734.  I'm not concerned about casting compared to hooking and landing a fish.  Just my way of doing things.  Of those mentioned, I would go with a 734 no question.  I am also a big fan of the 7'3 rods.

some time I wonder how many guys on here have opinions regarding rods they have never fished.

734 hands down. Chatterbaits in general have a pretty stout hook, little extra power to get a good hook in em. Plus you mentioned jigs, definitely 4 power for jigs.
