rocketball Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Having some issues getting my Lowrance elite 5 hdi to record sonar logs to use along with insight genesis. I recently updated the software on the unit figuring that was the problem. Still nothing. When I go into log sonar on the menu page, highlight start logging and press enter the unit will ether give me no response or sometimes it will return back to the sonar/navigation split screen. I have tried holding down the enter button with the same results. Am I missing something here? thanks Quote
rocketball Posted June 9, 2015 Author Posted June 9, 2015 is the card you are recording to good? as far as I know it is...its a brand new 16gig and only time I used the card was to upload the newest software version to the unit. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 9, 2015 Super User Posted June 9, 2015 Did you delete what was on the card so it will be empty and not trying to send anything to the unit? If not do so. Quote

Yeh I deleted the software update...is it possible it needs to be formatted? before I updated the software I had recorded a few sonar logs, however insight genesis wasn't able to read the logs and I figured it was due to the software update. However sense the update I havnt been able to get anything logged onto the sd card thanks Quote
TomLowrance1 Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 See if this helps.... Tom Branch ( Lowrance prostaffer) Recording on the LOWRANCE Elite units...1. To start collecting data you must obtain a SD mini card (2GB or larger)2. Insert it into the card reader slot on your unit.3. Power on the unit, follow prompt - press enter. 4. Press pages –highlight over to sonar only –press enter5. Press menu key - log sonar, press enter6. From there a new screen appears allowing you to tell the unit where to store the recording (the inserted SD card).7. Give the file a name or use what is provided.8. Then highlight Start Logging. At this point you are recording and can begin making your first map.9. While recording, you will see a blinking red dot in the upper left corner of the sonar screen10. Make sure you have the ‘trails’ function turned on so you can see the areas in which you have covered and areas still remaining in order to complete your map.12. The trails function is invaluable if you are mapping over the course of multiple days. Depending on the area you want to map13. The speed you are traveling (sonar will not record at speeds of over 20mph), your data collection trip can be as short as a few hours or as long as a few weeks. 14. To stop recording - press menu. Log Sonar – highlight stop logging – press enter. Quote
