Unfortunately, there's over 50 days until the next B.A.S.S. tournament. The good news is that there's lots of time to do your research and put together a killer roster.

Thanks to Havasu, everybody has good practice for this deep-water event. I'm expecting dropshot and jerkbaits to play a big role again this year.

My goal for this tournament was to pick guys who,1, did well last year, 2, are good deep water and smallmouth fishermen, and, 3, don't have a huge percentage. Thanks to KVD, Edwin Evers, Takahiro Omori, Brett Hite, and other good anglers who have a cult following in Fantasy Fishing, the guys I wanted to pick are relatively unnoticed so far, quite surprisingly.

Bucket A: Cliff Pirch

Cannot believe that after a phenomenal tournament dropshotting at Havasu that only 0.5% have picked Pirch. He is an amazing deep water fisherman and I have every confidence that he will crush the St. Lawrence river bass. And he finished third here last year.

Bucket B: Jonathon VanDam

JVD finished second last time here. He's good with electronics, dropshotting, deep water, smallmouth, and spinning rods. Perfect fit. Can't believe he's at only 2.1%, crazy good deal for him. Thanks to fan favorites like Timmy Horton, Greg Hackney, and Bobby Lane, I'm getting a stellar bargain. On northern lakes, it's hard to not go with JVD.

Bucket C: Brandon Palaniuk

Won it last year, has done reasonably well this year, and I am willing to bet he's gonna get a top twelve in this one at the very least. As is to be expected, he has high ownership, but I am sticking with him nonetheless. Fits all my criteria and won it last time on top of it.

Bucket D: Tommy Biffle

Couldn't really find someone who was a great match. Tommy Biffle finished 35th last year, he's a river rat, and I just decided to bet on him.

Bucket E: Chad Pipkens

Finished 10th last year, had a great tournament. In bucket E, that's a good chance. I think he'll do well again.

What did you come up with?

Good luck on your rosters, guys.

No, just seen his prowess on northern waters. I got really excited about this event. Usually the players I want are all taken with a high percentage. To have Pirch and JVD as relative dark horses is amazing.

Haha I know I know. I'm just messing with you after he pulled off that monster move in AZ.

Yeah, that was impressive. Actually as far as my fishing heroes are concerned, JVD is nowhere close to being on the list. But put him and Brandon on a deep smallmouth lake; they can't be beat.

You're the man.

So here's some food for thought. Just making conversation, and I was wondering this myself. So I just realized that this year elite wins are not an automatic qualify for the classic. Palaniuk is in 51st in AOY. Does he not try to hit a home run and play for the points instead? And this could go for a lot of guys in those 40 to 80 slots. My thoughts are he's a good pick up north either way.

Senko, We are thinking alike for this Event..

Here is my initial lineup.. I need a good event, especially after not having a guy in the top 12 at Bassfest...

Bucket A - Brent Ehrler

Im a firm believer that Ehrler can catch them anywhere but after watching him on MLF, I believe hes is good with a dropshot and Smallmouth..

Bucket B - JVD

JVD and Smallmouth go together like Peanut Butter & Jelly

Bucket C - Brandon Palaniuk

Palaniuk is actually a smallmouth guy also.  He learned to fish while fishing for them..  He's also not afraid to go get the "motherload" out in the Big water!

Bucket D - Scott Rook

Im not sure why Im choosing Rook but Bucket D is tough!  Im just going with my "gut", I guess..

Bucket E - Joseph Sancho

Im going local in this bucket..  Sancho has won some big local tournaments in the area and Im hoping he can get a top 12!

I also just found this out..  Wonder why it has been changed?

Sancho is definitely a bet! I still think of "Poppy Chula" whenever I think of him. Did ya'll see that? It was pretty funny.

I don't think Sancho has placed above about 90th in his year a half on the Elite Series.  I have nothing against the guy but he doesn't belong.  I wouldn't pick him for anything.

Well...............he kind of did "earn" his spot and "belong" on the Elite Series in year one by qualifying for it against 100's if not 1000's of other guy's trying. BUT.....has not performed well at all in either season, and by his own merits will most likely not be back for a third year. I am not knocking the guy, he's out there, living the bass fishing rock star dream, too bad it hasn't been working out for him.

Yeah, you're right.  He clearly did earn his spot and deserve to be there.   There are several guys in his shoes, they can fish or they wouldn't be there, just aren't putting it together at the next level.  I give them all the credit in the world for living the dream.

JVD is now owned by over 25%. So much for that 2.1%.

As far as my predictions go...................with no more "win and your in" for the classic, I don't think Palaniuk can afford the risk/reward situation of doing what he did last time. He needs to make up AOY ground, and if the run is brutal, and/or the fish ain't there this time he can ill-afford to go further down in the standings. Look for someone already in the top of the standings to take bigger risks.  KVD, Evers or Ehrler would be my guess's on who would roll the dice.

I found it funny that most of the elites ran up towards the lake. There are some great spots East of Waddington that can and often do pull 25lb bags. I'm sure with the new format for the classic berth you will find less elites making that run. I believe it was Mark Davis that fished for largemouth the whole tournament and fished on the last day. I can't wait for that tournament as it's just up the road from me.

My fiance chose to get married on this river in 2017 ;) , she doesnt even bass fish. I guess Ill have to have a new boat by then

I decided to bet on some dark horses for a couple of guys. Regretfully, I took Brandon Palaniuk and Tommy Biffle off, and I replaced them with Stephen Kennedy and Andy Montgomery. Stephen placed 7th last time, and Montgomery placed 22nd, so I feel pretty good about betting on them. Looking forward to the event!

B. David Walker

C. Brett Hite

D. Todd Faircloth

E. Stephen Longobardi

We'll see how it goes....

Might want to change your bucket E guy.  He isn't fishing the rest of the season.

^ Not everybody else!

Mine's not doing too bad, I actually increased tonight from 95.0 percentile to 95.4th percentile lol. Hey I'll take what I can get. I'm really expecting a rally from JVD he said he thought he could catch them a lot better and was disappointed. Also hoping Kennedy will make the cut, of course along with everybody else. I'm pretty sure JVD, Pipkens, and Pirch will make the cut.

Derek remitz disappointed. He has solid success on these fisheries.

I'm done with Brett Hite too. He is too inconsistent and burns me. Like any fantasy sport, you HAVE to avoid inconsistent players. Yeah he may score 3 TDS week 7 but he will follow up with 3 games and zero TDs.

Powroznik and Wellman were solid picks even tho Nate fell off a bit today.

Things went to my liking today. Stephen was my only angler who didn't make it, while Pipkens (22nd), JVD (24th), Pirch (28th), and Andy Montgomery (42nd) did quite well. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for them making it into Sunday, but I'm getting good points.

Funny thing is, I dropped from 95.4% to 95.3%

Hite sucking and JVD bottoming out on day 2 really hurt me.  Feider with his first top 12 and Martens in 13th should balance it out some though.
