Mitchell Kelley Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Does anyone know of any good reels that have a big spool. I have a frog rod and I want a reel with a big spool for the braided line. Any suggestions? Quote
kcdinkerz Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Daiwa lexa 300 or 400, shimano curado 300. But even with 60 pound braid a regular 150 or 200 size reel should be fine doubt you can cast a frog far enough to get down to a bare spool. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I'll second the Curado 300. It's overkill for a frog rod but one thing is for sure it'll be a beast of a frog reel. Quote
Preytorien Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Keep in mind too that if you're using 65-80lb braid the higher diameter braids won't cast as far as smaller braids, so your larger spool size will be all for naught. Might be worth checking out the Power Pro Maxcuatro braid, same strength at a lower diameter. I've been using the 50lb test (same diameter as 35lb braid) all year so far and love it. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 By 'big spool' do you mean high line capacity or large arbor? Not sure either will really help the cause though. Quote
nicksmurf111 Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 Just being smart...I have a Penn 209 and a Penn 350 sitting on the shelf at home. Both are fun to use, but I don't think you can cast a frog on them. They do do qualify as having a "big spool" though . I think they need almost 1 1/2 oz to cast any distance...probably slow ratios too. Unfortunately, you can't hear sarcasm over the Internet. Quote
