As some of you have stated in other fishing line posts, I now have to switch to hi-vis monofilaments in order to watch my line.  I've read all of the posts about fishing equipment looking for specific info on hi-vis monofilaments but could not find answers to my questions.  Recently I've purchased Maxima and Stren Hi-Vis yellow, well actually yellow and gold respectively.  I have spooled up a spinning reel (stren)  and a baitcasting reel (maxima), as is my habit after spooling line I'll go out in the boat and trail the line behind the boat to get rid of any twist that occurred while spooling.  In fact I did just that this morning.  Something I discovered which might be pertinent for people cogimatating changing to hi-vis is that, of the two brands, only Stren floats, Maxima floats for a while but then sinks like a sinking rapala albeit a little slower.

I am considering changing my beloved Berkley moss green fireling to a hi-vis braid but no manufacturers describe their vi-vis braids as floaters or sinkers.  Does anybody know which hi-vis yellow braid brands do float for a day of fishing? Oh, and the braids should maintain their color for the life of the line.

Thanks in advance to all who happen across this subject.

Finding a braid that maintains its color is going to be a trick. As for a floating braid, I believe you'll find that most will behave similar to the Maxima. For presentations that warrant line watching, floating or sinking characteristics of a line would matter little to me, my ability to see it is my major concern.

Most braids will float unless they contain Dyneema fibers, such as 832. Those braids tend to sink. Something I don't particularly believe does anything to put the odds in your favor. I'd highly recommend that you do switch out your mono rig with some kind of braid. And put a 4' - 5' length of fluorocarbon leader material on the end. Your sensitivity and control will increase dramatically. You will also not have to worry about line twist ever again.

Plenty of Hi-Vis braids out there to choose from. They all work/perform just fine. Just a matter of personal choice and your pocketbook. I actually prefer Fireline Crystal. I can see this white line quite well and it ties up knots perfectly. And if the water is relatively clear, the whiteness will maintain itself over time.

The natural color of the superlne fibers is white, the only thing that can happen to it is get dirty.

Any colored versions of superline have a coating since the material cannot be dyed. The coating washing off is why it fades.

Dyneema & Spectra are the same and both will float... the Gore fiber in Sufix 832 tips the scale to "heavier than water".

I have some bright orange suffix elite mono if you are looking for another hi vis mono. Most braids will lose color but you can always buy markers and cut a slit in the tip of them to reapply color

I use Sufix 832 hi viz yellow and I know I caught at least 3 fish this weekend that I may not have caught without it.
