I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a new fish finder/chart plotter and at first I was looking at the Elite HDI, but then I realized that the Chirp model has a $50 rebate, that along with my daughter in laws employee discount I can get it for not much more then the HDI model. With all that said, to the guys the have a Chirp model. Give me the low down on this particular model, do you like it, what kind of job does it do. All the pros and cons are appreciated. Thanks again for all of your help...

The Elite CHIRP models are the current models.

The Elite HDI is discontinued.

CHIRP Is the new "thing" and buzzword.

Your choice is old stuff vs. new stuff.

The chirp unit will have better target/ fish separation on the regular broadband screen.... Both come with an HDI transducer.... The chirp ones also have a better processor and a bit better graphics... If you can get a Navionics + bundle that would be worth looking into for the sonarchart layer

The package I'm looking at includes the Navionics chip, I was wondering if it would be of use but I guess it will.

It gives you sonarcharts and updates for a year. It really makes the lake maps more detailed!

That would be great, when I was talking to the sales guy he said that it was more for people just cruising and actually it take some of the details away so it's not so confusing. I pulled the trigger on it last night, I can't wait to get it out on the water and see what it can do.

The sales person doesn't have a clue. GPS mapping is a fishing tool.

Agreed, the Down Scan and GPS is the most useful thing about the Elite 4 HDI. Most salesman don't have a clue, some do, but not many.
