Super User 00 mod Posted June 6, 2015 Super User Posted June 6, 2015 Normally I am always spooling up my reels alone, and with the smaller 300yrd or less spools it was never a problem, but since I have been buying the 1000yrd spools, it was a little more tricky. So I decided to make a spooling station at the house. I have a wooden rod rack, so I just made it onto there. Basically, I took a 8'' bolt and ran it through the wood. Thought I would just put a nut on there, but the threads didn't go back that far. So I got a locking collar to lock against the outside of the wood, then a plastic spacer, and then a hard conical plastic faucet washer. Same on the outside, except added a spring to keep tension, and replaced the set screw with a thumb screw for easy removal on the locking collar. Worked very well while spooling up 4 reels yesterday. Just thought I would share an easy to make spooling station that cost around $10 and hardly any time to make. Jeff 3 Quote

I have a rod rack as well and will be coping this exactly. So please wait to fill the patent. Matt 1 Quote

Jon G Posted June 6, 2015 Posted June 6, 2015 Thats great! I've been sketching a few designs myself to make one. I think I saw Jason Christie make a really simple one with a tupperware container and a bolt of some sort running through the side 1 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted June 6, 2015 Super User Posted June 6, 2015 That one is nice. I'll bet it doesn't grumble as much as my wife when I hand here a spool of line and a pencil. 4 Quote

Super User new2BC4bass Posted June 6, 2015 Super User Posted June 6, 2015 Wow. Why didn't I think of that? Oh yeah. That's right. I don't have any rod racks. However, I do have a 2 x 4 I can mount one on. Since I work in a machine shop, I can make my own plastic washers and spacers. Thanks a lot for sharing. Bet a lot of people will take advantage of your idea. I know I will. 1 Quote
Super User 00 mod Posted June 7, 2015 Author Super User Posted June 7, 2015 Glad you like it. You can also make an "L" bracket and mount it to anything flat. Just another version. Jeff Quote
