NEKvt Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 I got the urge to dig around in the materials bin to see if I could put some sexy shad'ish flies together. Still auger deep ice (18") on the lake outside my door, gonna be a while before I can see how they work. Pardon my lack of photo technique. Quote
B75nweav Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 VERY COOL!!! If I could catch anything on that sexy shad, that fly would almost make me want to flyfish..!!! lol Quote
NEKvt Posted March 15, 2009 Author Posted March 15, 2009 Thanks guys, I can tell by looking at the tying area I am dying for spring. Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 Very nice. Great idea . I'd throw 'em. Eddie Quote
drath Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 Very nice. Now, if you want to throw something like that with a bait caster or spinning combo try this. Tie it on a 3/0 or larger EWG in the little area just behind the eye of the hook where the tip of your soft plastic usually goes. But before you do, tie in one of those cork screw type coils that they put in shaky head jigs. Then tie on the streamer material. Now you can attach your soft plastic to the coil like this. I just started tying these this past winter. Quote
NEKvt Posted March 20, 2009 Author Posted March 20, 2009 Thats killer, I would just throw it on the fly rod though. Can't see any reason that wouldn't cast just fine on the 8wt. I have been using those hooks to tie topwaters that ride with the hook up(small dumbell underneath at the 90 degree bend. the one on the left), as well as some streamers. Have not put any soft plastic tails on though, that is a great combo. I have been trying to concoct a better weedless option for the fly rod than a mono loop and that just might be it. If anyone wants to clue me in as to how to link to a photo I would greatly appreciate it. PM me. Quote
VolFan Posted March 20, 2009 Posted March 20, 2009 I don't suppose anyone'd be interested in selling a dozen of those to me? The stripers are gonna be running in the Potomac soon! PM me if interested. I'd be interested in some in a 3/0 to 5/0 size in shad or bluegill colors. Thanks, Greg Quote
