I have a friend getting a 20ft canoe with a 20hp outboard. What are your guys' views on this? I think its crazy and a waste of money.

sounds like a lot of motor for not a lot of boat to me....not to mention i would be surprised if you could even put that large of a motor on the back of a canoe without it tipping completely over.

Must be a transom on the back end. Sort of like the old town model Dicks sells.

I'd buy a boat but most lakes around me don't allow gas engines anymore.

Fortunately electrics aren't a problem. It beats paddling as long as they work when you need them most! Grr!!

That canoe/motor combo sounds like a perfect set up for your friend....make sure you go to the lake first time he uses it...stay on shore and bring a camera and post the results on here lmao

I would go with a 30' & 30 HP.. Yamaha of course..

As long as it's wide enough to be stable, it should be fun.  I hope he's getting a good deal on it.

I hope it's not your generic canoe. I have a 17' Grumman cargo canoe with squared off back and my little 4hp Merc is almost too much motor for it.

Make sure the rig is properly balanced or more accurately, counter balanced.

My thought on the rig ==don`t  do it.

Wear PFD`s and attach a rope and float to it so you can find it later.
