I am using a dobyns 703sf in the champion line as well as a diawa ballistic ex . I am using 10 lb suffix 832 braid with seagur 10 lb red labe flurocarbon leader , but the knots from time to time are banging against the rod guides causing knots and lost distance. I am using an albright knot which is a good knot but its hit or miss on making contact . I watched a video
reffering to the fg knot . Still learning this one . My
question is should I drop lb test or keep switching braids . So far I have tried power pro super slick , suffix 832 . I have sunline sx1 on my 734c champion and love it . This is getting expensive spending $ 20 at a time jumping around . Once this is figured out wouldn't mind trying some sinking braid.

You leader knot will always "click" through the guides no matter what knot you tie. If it is somehow hanging in the guides though you probably tied a ugly looking knot and its no good. Any standard line to line knot should work fine for normal guides. I think most use Albright or Uni-Uni to connect lines. I use both of those from time to time and also like a blood knot but that is hard to tie and I hardly fish braid anymore so I don't get much practice at it.

The knots are properly cinched and tight . I would say low profile but I am scratching my head. The guides are not micro but they are smaller.

I never make a leader so long that I have to cast through my guides. Any knot is going to cause some type of resistance and I'm not comfortable with it banging against my guides cast after cast.

10# braid with a 10# leader using an Albright sounds perfect to me.  I get a "click" too, using this set up so long I pay no attention, don't feel I lose any casting distance.

An opposing nail knot is the smallest diameter, smoothest knot for leader connections and it doesn't care about differing diameter lines. I use a tying tool. Its a hassle to tie, but it casts easily and has nearly 100% knot strength. I use it mostly for tying tippets to fly line, but its the best way to join two lines. IMHO

832 and slick8 both cast well for braid but both will wear off their slick coating in a short amount of time.

If you are losing distance on knot friction, suggest FG knot as you indicate..

I use FG knot 65 lb braid to 50lb mono going thru microguides on my swimbait rod and have not had to retie so far this season.. will you bang yes but less than other knots

so no you dont need to downsize your #

OR go to 17# nanofil if you are worried about distance to an extreme

tho if you are talking 10# to 10# fluoro (which I am not a fan of)

I've had no problem with uni-to-uni when tied properly

This is my shakey head setup so small lb test is a must . The uni knot is being tied properly so I am not worried in regards to that its just that it is hanging up on the guides as its coming off the spool . My curiosity is that its not every time just every now and then but in time it creates a head ache when I am having to peel off line by the yard to clear a massive knot in the line . At this point I think my next bet is to simply re spool and try the fg knot .

I'm tying a uni/uni with 832 65# to CX 17#. No problem with my Team Lews Rods or my Fenwick HMG. Must be the guide design on your rod. Give Dobyns a call, see what they have to say about it.

Re the knots, it's no mystery that uni to uni knots are tougher to get through the guides than an albright, or improved albright (has another name which I cannot now remember, but it's just an albright that you wrap down, then back up).  The uni's have five diameters of both the small line and the large line.  The albright has only two of the larger line, as does the improved albright.  They have either two or four diameters of the finer line, the braid, which makes them very compact.  The albright and its improvement depend on getting the tag back through the original loop in the right direction. Get it wrong, they fail, get it right, they are very reliable.  Do a search for fishing knots and follow directions perfectly.

I run albrights through size 4 micros with 10 pound flouro and 10 pound braid, no sweat.  But the knots have to be tied right.  I went for a long time not believing in albrights until I finally got (took) the advice on this forum on how to tie it correctly.

Its hard to tie but the slim beuty knot is the best leader to line knot for braid to mono fluro to mono etc... that i have seen and used, i used to have the same problem and that reduced it best for me. Like above poster stated about his leader never being so long it goes into the guides years ago i realized myleaders only need to be about 18 inches due to the stained to muddy water i fish so i use a uni to uni now but if you fish cleaner water than i do then learn the slim beuty, you will like it.
