Flippin4Biggins Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 So some of you said throw that jig more and I sure have. In the last month I have increased my bass number by ten fold with jigs. Today I lost a 5lb plus fish in the weeds.... What are the odds when a fish comes off that you can catch it again? I know when I miss top water I have a follow up. Or is it pretty much not going to happen since I hooked him and tuff luck move on? Quote
rybobassmaster Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Most of the time if the bass feels the hook they will not strike again, however if the bass dosnt feel any hook chances are he will hit again especally if you throw a differt look at em. Quote
Flippin4Biggins Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 That's a big no then bc he definitely felt my heavy power rod in his mouth pulling him through the weeds plus he jumped.... 1 Quote
Danturner Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Most bass will clam up if you had him on only exception is if your dealing with super aggressive bass Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 5, 2015 Super User Posted June 5, 2015 it doesn't take as long for them to start biting in a lot of cases. I have caught the same fish in the same area within 30 minutes before. But i guess the real answer is, it all depends lol Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted June 5, 2015 Super User Posted June 5, 2015 I lost a bass on a 4" red jelly worm. About 20 minutes later, I caught that bass. It still had my 4" jelly worm hanging out of its mouth. Hootie Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted June 5, 2015 Super User Posted June 5, 2015 If you stuck that bass with a jig, it's not going to be coming back for seconds any time soon. Quote
Quebecbassangler Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 If he felt you pulling jumped and you lost him on a jig, chances of him going for a jig again so soon are slim, more than likely he is hunkered down regaining energy but will not pass up an easy(but different) meal if one were to present itself a short time afterward on a slower retrieve. If they were fattening up for the cold they tend to re hit more often as they become more aggressive in feeding but hey you never know Good luck to you and here's to hoping you land him John Quote
Flippin4Biggins Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 Thanks guys I appreciate it.... Normally I have a worm a jig and a toowater during the rainy storm conditions but I didn't today as i was a spur of the moment day. Quote
WPCfishing Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I've never been lucky enough to catch one I put as hook set on. I have caught others while casting back for him though. Quote
Super User WRB Posted June 5, 2015 Super User Posted June 5, 2015 Give it few minutes a try agian, bass are curious and most of the time more than one bass is in the area and check out what happened. Tom Quote

I´ve caught the same fish 4 times the same week, 3 times one day after another, the fourth time two days after the third time I caught it. I´ve caught the same fish twice in the same day with the same bait maybe 15 min later after I caught it the first time only a few yards away from where I caught him initially. Does this answer your question ? Quote
Super User senile1 Posted June 5, 2015 Super User Posted June 5, 2015 In the OP's region, a 5 plus lb fish is an older and wiser fish. There is a reason she is that big. I find that when one of that size and age gets off after being hooked solidly I typically won't get another bite from them on that fishing day. I have had smaller fish bite the same lure or follow -up lures again, however. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted June 5, 2015 Super User Posted June 5, 2015 Of course you can catch that fish again, when? I have no clue.. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted June 5, 2015 Super User Posted June 5, 2015 If you had him hooked, it's unusual to have the same bass bite again. Quote
Flippin4Biggins Posted June 5, 2015 Author Posted June 5, 2015 Thanks guys that's what I was thinking I did pick 2lb and two more dinks off the same stump .... The good thing about this lake is that it's one of those bigger lakes surrounded by nice houses but all they do is run around it. I'm there morning afternoon and evening and I barely see people fish so Im sure I'll see her soon. Quote
