So I recently started fishing the Ned rig and was wondering if it's ok to store the TRD's in a Plano out of the bag?  I have heard that you shouldn't store Elaztech with other plastics but wasn't sure about about being in the Plano by themselves.

F.Y.I obviously they would be sorted out by color...not sure if that matters but just want to be thorough in my explaination.

Thanks Guys!!

I use a small Plano double sided box right now, with no issues. Where I ran into trouble with the rigged bait on the rod when I throw it back in the truck where it stays most the summer. Had a old clean small Plano box I am going to let the used bait sit in while it dries so the hook doesn't rust. Now trying to find the things around here sucks, only place I found is the new Cabela's which had 2 colors of the Zinker Z and of course one was out of stock;)

You must be shopping at the Cabela's in Sun Prairie??  I stopped there yesterday looking to pick some up.  They did have some Shroomz in stock, just no TRD's.  Thanks for the reply

Best just to leave them in the package IMO.

Yup, they didn't have the TRD's when I was there either, I just stretched a Zinker Z a few times, cut It in half and soaked them in water overnight based on someone's suggestion on the board and it worked fine. I may let the next batch soak a little longer to get more of the salt out before I fish them so they float a little better.

Have you guys done this or is that just guessing or opinion?

The salesman told me that they are going to be getting more in next week.  Didn't say what day

I fish the Ned rig a lot. Save yourself the heartache and leave them in the package they come in. I don't soak mine either. They catch fish well with the salt in them and lose it quickly after a few fish.

Elaz-tech trailers come in the package with the original chatter bait, and the trailers hold up in my boxes when not in contact with regular plastics. I had only one chatter bait this past year and the Elaz-tec trailer on it lasted up until I lost it a couple weeks ago.

On the river I am mostly using the baits because of the buoyancy, so soaking them is crucial for me. The more I use them the less I snag on the rocks. The cool part about the rig though is that it still hits the rocks which is crucial, it just doesn't snag. That was why I was going to soak mine longer. Lake fishing I wouldn't worry about it at all, cut and fish would be that pattern there.

I personally never keep baits in the original package, that is changing slowly, but generally not something I have done.

It's strongly recommended to keep them in the original package. You can get a bag pouch from any fishing retailer and make is simple. Seems you are going through just as much work to figure out how to keep them out of that bag rather than just going with it. Will you find a solution, probably, but it seems to me like keeping gas in a milk jug rather than a gas can.

Sometimes you have to remember the K.I.S.S method...

Like Blue, I keep mine in the package just because it is so much easier, though I know guys who have set up normal Plano boxes with all their Z-Man plastics nicely arranged inside. I bought one of those small zipper binder worm bags with rings (similar to pic below) and simply use a hole punch on the original packages. Holds about 15 packs of baits. Placed the jigheads in small 2"x3" Ziploc bags and keep them in their own small box. Never have to worry about plastics mixing, hooks rusting, etc. Have also mixed colors several times and can't remember ever seeing their baits bleed like normal plastics do.

Ditto on going through the trouble to pre-soak them. A waste of time IMO. Fish them "as is" and don't worry. Salt usually is all gone within an hour, especially if you pre-stretch them after putting on the jighead before fishing.

Edit: cgolf, just saw your post about why you pre-soak. Another option might be to not presoak and simply start fishing with a lighter weight jighead to start until they "break in." If you normally throw 1/16, start with a 1/32 instead. Should have about the same effect/fall rate.

I just called Z-man and asked them about this.  Their response was that a Plano is fine.  The only issues are if the TRD's are stored with baits made with Plastisol.

I've carried my zinkerz and TRD's in a double sided plano box ( 4x6 ) for about six months and they still look like they did when I took them out of the package. Except for those I've used of course. I keep my jig heads and hooks in there also. I could fish out of the box for months without refilling it and it's much handier on the kayak than the original packages (tried that). Like most things fishing, it's a personal choice.

LOL....did they tell you not to keep them in the original packaging?

No, They said that if you are not keeping them in the original package that the Plano will work without any issues.  Just don't store them with any baits made with Plastisol

Good to know.  Now, I just need to figure which of the 50 pounds of plastics I carry have plastisol....whatever that is.  I tend to not put 'used' plastics back in original packaging.  And, I quit using elaztech for a while because I had a lot of problems.  But, now that I have some (I blame the recent ned hype)....now that I have some - they go back into the original packaging.  No gas in my milk jugs.

For me it's just more of an issue with space & organization as I'm fishing out of a Jackson Cuda 12'.  Not trying to reinvent the wheel.  I'm in the same boat as you when it comes to knowing which baits are made of Plastisol but from the sounds of it if I just keep the TRD away from all other baits I should be good to go.
