What Type Of Line Is Best

Hi guys,

 

First of all thanks for all your help on my new set up, I now have a new Fenwick Aetos with a Shinamo shimano stradic ci4+ so thank-you

 

I have a 10lb Monofilament line on my reel but i was advised that it would be better if i put a braided line on it as its better with senko setup and if you catch something like a walleye your line will hold.

 

My question is what is the pros and cons of each type of line and what would you recommend as an all round line

X2. If you use braid, you pretty much need a leader. Whether it be mono or fluoro, try to stick around 8-10lb.

Agree with above. On spinning gear braid will give you a long cast and you can feel your bait much better. A leader will give a less visible line and a little stretch.

I'm a bank fisherman who needs as much versatility as possible and I only carry one spinning rig and one casting rig. For my Shimno spinning rig I have 20# power pro braid which casts so nice and doesn't get those memory loops like mono does. Then depending on the technique I fish I will add via swival a 6# to 10# length of mono leader. The leader can be 15" to 4ft long depending on the cast I need to make.

BTW, 20# braid is the equivalent dia to 6# mono and your Shimono reel has a mono and power pro spool capacity spec.

Overall all lines have goods and bad based on my research and the suggested article helped me determine what I was going to use on my setup.

For the application you are talking about, I think about trying 10lb copoly like Yozuri ( personally I throw 12lb).  Stronger and more durable than mono. If fishing in clear water less visible than braid, and has better abrasion resistance as well.

thanks for the tips.... maybe i should just stick to my 10 lb mono for now untill the season is over and go braid or floro for next season ... to many options lol

For flipping and punching around logs docks into weeds I use 18lb spyder braided with a good old pallomar knot,on longer casts and depending what I am fishing for I may go fluro,mono or braided,all depends on what your more comfortable with and what works best with your set up

 

the pro and con of braided is no stretch,it is great as you feel everything but if your not used to using it you can pull the hook out to fast,rip your line on a hard hook set,as the braided will rub and sometimes tear at the reel if you set too hard or horse the fish in so kind of a double edged sword but I tend to go braided more often than other types
