Super User FishTank Posted June 3, 2015 Super User Posted June 3, 2015 Good quarterback with the best agent in the business. IMHO, I don't think the guy is worth it. What do you guys think? Quote
preach4bass Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 I don't think he's worth it to most teams, but to Carolina, yeah, he's worth it. He's good for football in our state. It gives us a good player, who is a nice guy to cheer for. Good business move for both parties. 1 Quote

Djf3864 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Good guy is different than a good QB. He is a mediocre whine bag who will now handcuff the team because they overpaid him. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 3, 2015 Super User Posted June 3, 2015 who would you replace him with? that is the problem with the paying of NFL QB. I would bet there are 20 teams who would like to have a guy like Cam Newton on their team. The past few seasons he has done pretty well and looks to have turned a corner as far as his play goes. I like the guy and hope he does well, just not against my team 2 Quote
Djf3864 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Guys like Cam Newton just do not last in the NFL, he is not a true passer and that will start to become very apparent in the years to come. He is a gifted athlete but I see the speed of the game and the quality of defense quickly catching up to him and scheming him out of the starting job. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 3, 2015 Super User Posted June 3, 2015 well he has played 4 years, made two pro bowls and only missed two games and won a playoff game last season so he is doing ok for a 4th year QB. And as much as people don't want to admit it, the pure pocket passer, while still being a big part of football is slowly being modified to fit more modern style of offenses. Sure, they still will put up points and do well but they are not required to win as can be seen by the seahawks super bowl. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted June 3, 2015 Super User Posted June 3, 2015 The going contract rate for a 'good' QB is $100 Million plus. 1 Quote
preach4bass Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 This is a win, win, win situation. Cam wins because he gets paid, the fans win because he is entertaining to watch, and the Panthers organization wins because those fans are going to buy a lot of tickets, concessions, merchandise, and jerseys. Super User gardnerjigman Posted June 4, 2015 Super User Posted June 4, 2015 Not my team, nor do I really care. He seems to be a good role model for the kids so I'm happy for it. Quote
craww Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Its not the 100 mil, its the guaranteed money. At any rate its what you'd expect. Salaries constantly trend up and Pro bowl caliber QB's in their mid 20's don't hit the market too often. He hasn't had much around him either. The O line is dreadful. Imo he's the most physically talented QB in football, including Luck. I remember watching him that season Auburn won the national title and he got the Heisman and thinking just how talented he looked. It was amazing how a guy that tall could move so well and just flick his wrist while running and throw a 30 yard lazer. He was supposed to be a bit of a knucklehead coming out of college but seems to have grown up. In other news, russel wilson is about to GET PAID. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 4, 2015 Super User Posted June 4, 2015 I have read many stories that WIlson is not going to get paid or if he is, it won't be with the seahawks. I like Russell but i do think he will get paid, somewhere because until there are 32 franchise QBs in the league, they are a top commodity. I guess that is part of the beauty of non-guaranteed contracts. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted June 4, 2015 BassResource.com Administrator Posted June 4, 2015 Don't be concerned about Wilson. The Seahawks have the richest owner in the NFL. He'll get paid one way or another. Quote

He'll get paid one way or another. i don't think having the money was the issue but cap space and figuring out if he is the reason they are performing well, but my question to all of that is always the same as it is for other teams, who are you going to replace him with that can step right in and perform at a high level...... 1 Quote
Swamp Gas Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Not to burst anybody's bubble, but Newton is a thief. He got booted out of the University of Florida because he was caught stealing stereo equipment. So he did what all the disciplinary and academically challenged athletes do - he transferred to Auburn. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted June 5, 2015 Super User Posted June 5, 2015 Do i really hear someone acting like university of Florida is some perfect school with no problem athletes, really? I would bet Mr. Hernandez might disagree...and the 50+ others who were arrested in the past 10 years... oh and it wasn't stereo equipment, i think it was a laptop and he has had zero issues since. People make mistakes, especially in college and the key is growing from them and moving on which it seems as though he has done. Quote

Pretty sure Mr Hernandez would not agree with you, he pled innocent. 1 Quote

All I said was Newton is a thief and got kicked out. Auburn still accepted him knowing all that. If U of F had known about Hernandez while he was in school, I'm certain he would also have got the boot. And I seriously doubt the Patriots would have drafted him had they known about his criminal activities. Quote
