MI.Kayaker Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Looks like some new, smaller Spro rats will be coming out this year at ICast. Definitely has me interested in a size I can throw on non-swimbait class rods. More info: http://thebbz.com/content/2015/5/15/warning-spro-bbz-1-rats-sighting 1 Quote
Crankinstein Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Those look awesome! I will def be trying one of those out this year. Wonder when we'll be able to get them though, if I remember correctly it was quite a while from ICAST reveal to actually being able to get the original spro rat, think TW was taking pre orders several months in advance. Super User rippin-lips Posted June 2, 2015 Super User Posted June 2, 2015 Then the release date was pushed back 3 times. I would figure spring of 2016. Quote
WPCfishing Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 After reading the crap they pulled after a tournament they put on I'll pass on everything they offer. Boycott is on. 1 Quote

Super User deep Posted June 3, 2015 Super User Posted June 3, 2015 Stupid me! I thought the two newer ones were supposed to be larger than the one already released lol. What's the point of a tiny rat bait anyway? Quote

stkbassn Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 You can throw the current SPRO Rat on any MH rod. I am throwing it on a Powell Diesel 723 and it casts it well and handles it just fine. I found that a heavy rod works against this bait and isn't much fun to use with this bait. It's really not very heavy. So don't think you need a big swimbait rod to throw it. Just ain't true Quote

Just ain't true Wow I am pretty surprised to hear that. My heaviest rod is a MH Veritas Winch 1/2-1 3/8 and a KVD 8.0 (1.5oz) seemed to be pushing it. You think I can get away with a 2.5oz rat? Quote

You think I can get away with a 2.5oz rat? Yeah, the weight range sounds fine but if that Winch is the cranking rod it might not be suited for such a bait. Never held one or played around with it. If this helps, the Diesel isn't rated to handle anything over 3/4oz yet it lays that rat out there very well with little strain at all. It's a MH/XF but with such a nice forgiving tip it handles all treble hooked baits well and also does a fine job with jigs and plastics. It's a great rod for a do it all rod. It might not be the perfect rod for the rat but I haven't noticed much strain at all. Try it and see, I think you'll be fine. That rat doesn't seem to be 2.5 oz to me but that's what they say it is. It's light. Quote

If you've tried the Cl8 mighty mouse or vole you'd probably see the potential...both are small and catch big fish. I love them. The mighty mouse I throw on a spinning rod and I've caught a ton on it. It's awesome! I'm sure the small rat will be great. I will buy them for sure! 1 Quote
