Hey Guys,

I've been fishing at dusk lately and some guy at the pond told me that night fishing may be the way to have better success in that pond. His reasoning was the temperature drops and bass go shallow and become more active. I have tried night fishing before but never had any luck. Do you guys have any suggestion for the lures I should use? The pond is 6 feet deep at the most with about 3" of visibility. Thanks

I use abythibg I would in the day, but I really like jigs and spinnerbaits. A dark spinnerbait with a singlecclorsdo blade works great.

black arbogast jitter bugs. plus any plastics techniques you woud use during he day, just use black or black and blue color combinations.

I have been told by everyone that goes night fishing a lot that u fish the same lures just in black as would any other time.

They don't need to be black or dark colored.  A bass' forage doesn't change colors at night and they have no trouble feeding then.  Bass have excellent night vision up close, much better than humans. A dark color does let them perceive your offering at a greater distance, but their strike zone doesn't change because of it.  If their strike zone is 3ft.,they are going to be able to see it no matter the color.  Whatever lures you use during the day are just as productive at night, but if you have one in black, I'd use that one. :wink3:

Wakebaits, jigs, pretty much anything you would use during the day, but those two seem to shine at night.

Lol at black.... I have heard it since I was a kid. It is just bad info that has been passed along for years. Does black work at night? yes and thats why guys swear by it. But black does NOT work any better then regular colors. If anything its the worst choice of color for using on the bottom or under the surface. Just about the only time a bass can see black better is when it floating creating a silhouette. If anything White would be the most visable color. The truth is, at night the color probably doesn't matter at all and if it does its very little. I have tested my theory many times at night using the same baits but different colors with no noticeable difference. The only color that made a difference was glow and it had a negative effect.

One of my most deadliest night worms is called Starry Night; it is dark smoke color on top, clear on the bottom, & loaded with silver glitter.

My deadliest buzz bait is a 1/2 oz Cavitron, white skirt, & gold blade.

I avoid buzzbait. Bass don't always want to hit topwater but d**n is it exciting at night. You can miss strikes too.

Vibrating jigs, Colorado blade spinnerbaits and swimjigs with flapping trailers are my top producers. Poppers are also excellent.

I fish at night quite often and mostly use a black spinnerbait. I did pick up a couple of black Z Man chatterbaits that I have been fishing the last couple of trips and I can't keep them off my hook.

I´m not going to say a buzz bait ´cause them things don´t work for me, however one of my favorite night lures is Arbogast´s Sputterbuzz ( go figure ), don´t ask me what´s the difference between one and the other all I know is that one works for me and the other one doesn´t ( I´m absolutely positive it has to do with retrieval speed ), then there´s the allmighty spinnerbait, lipless cranks, normally I don´t fish worms at night, swim jigs with booty tail swim baits ( skinny dipper ) and crawfish ( rage tail craws ) or c tail "grubs" ( subwoofer or regular grub ) as trailers is what I use most times. There´s one bait that has always been my absolute favorite for night fishing, that is the Jitterbug,I have to say that it´s not the most productive but I really don´t care much that it´s not.

Raul, do you remember the Arbogast 'Sputterfuss' (Hawaiian Wiggler)?

Sadly I do  :-(

Oddly enough, bass can be caught at night on any lure that you fish during the day.

When I did a lot of night fishing (not much anymore) my favorite was a black Arbogast Jitterbug.

I did better with a Jitterbug than a buzzbait, probably because of the intermittent pauses.

Rolo and Raul the buzzbait has been a goto for me for years. I use squeaky non clacker buzzers. I fish them as slow as I can while keeping them on top and buzzing. I want a methodical retrieve. No variance in speeds. And lastly I fish them parallel to the shore lines. Usually about 2-5ft from shore as long as its a couple feet deep. I rarely get bit casting outwards into the lake. Try these tips and you might change your mind about buzzers

Open water I like a black buzzbait. For Cover I like a black and blue spinnerbait or jig & Craw.

Yes I do Roger and the Arbogast Sputterbug too, I have 3 of those in my T-box and they continue to catch fish, they are like "break glass in case of fire" lures, sometimes when they seem not liking any of the regular topwaters I pull them out and manage to catch a few fish.
