Danturner Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I just grabbed a few of the new shadow raps and they look deadly in the water. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with these lures and if so what type presentation they were using. I'm killing bass with these lures! Quote

I use shad rap 8 out here on pearl-white and dead stick it Quote
Danturner Posted June 1, 2015 Author Posted June 1, 2015 By far the shad rap is an amazing lure it's one of my favorite go tos. Quote
BigSkyBasser Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I use original shad raps all the time. Love em, however had yet to buy any of the shadow rap models. Have heard mixed results and the reviews on TW aren't quite as reassuring as I'd hoped. Will fish one if I get it in MTB or LTB. Quote
RHuff Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 Deadly lure. I have caught about 30 fish on the shad color 4-8' runner. I've caught Largemouth, Smallmouth, Crappie, and Muskie on it this spring. Quote
MassBass Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 outfished my buddy's shadow rap with a husky jerk. Quote
bassinyea Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Shadow Rap came out with lot of hype because it was introduced at the classic and a few people caught some fish on it. At the end of the day it is just a jerkbait and pretty much any that you can buy will catch fish. I have one and laying side by side next to a vision 110, I would pick up the vision ten out of ten times. Both baits have erratic action, but it comes down to casting. Rapala should have made the shadow rap with a weight transfer system like the lucky crafts and 110s have. Helps so much with casting when the wind is blowing which everyone knows is when jerkbaits shine the best. Quote

I've been using the Shadow Rap for the last few weeks and I like it a lot. I got big walleyes, pike, largemouth, smallmouth, muskie and even a crappie on it. I don't know that it out fished any of the other baits I have been using, but it catches fish for me. 1 Quote

It definitely is a bait that has good action and will catch fish, just trying to say that it is not "the jerkbait" or magic lure of any sort like so many of the people pushing it are trying to make it out to be. 9 dollar price point for this bait is a decent price. Super User Cgolf Posted June 2, 2015 Super User Posted June 2, 2015 In my limited time with the bait this year, family stuff is keeping me out of the boat, it was awesome. The only issue I had was converting strikes when paused to hooked fish, but that is on me because I don't fish jerk baits much. Once I get dialed into the bait I see myself catching a lot of fish. Water temps were mid 50's and the most I paused was about a second and a half. The only bummer is pike and musky like them and will take your bait with them if your not careful. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted June 2, 2015 Super User Posted June 2, 2015 I picked up 4 of them at a gas station on the way to the lake one day. I used the bone color fishing down a rock wall and tore up with it. Is it the best? No, but for $8 it's a nice bait. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted June 2, 2015 Super User Posted June 2, 2015 We didn't have a long jerkbait bite in my waters as the water went from cold to warm very quick. That said, my best baits have been the smaller RC STX in secret night and the Rapala Shadow rap in moss back shiner. The one thing that I wasn't very keen on at first was the slow sink but the way it falls is absolutely killer and it does work as all of my fish came after a pause and not immediately, maybe 3 seconds, everyone I caught hit like that. Comparing the 110, which is a slow riser, to the shadow rap is like comparing apples to oranges, the reason is they are 2 completely different actions, the 110 has a tight wiggle with a fair amount of roll, the profile along with the weighting of it seems to really get the attention of the fish. The shadow rap has a wide darting action with a good bit of roll but it will suspend level for a few seconds and start sinking nose down and that gets the attention of more lethargic fish. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 2, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 2, 2015 I fished it quite a bit and managed 1 dink smallie with one of mine. We had a good jerkbait bite this spring too. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted June 2, 2015 Super User Posted June 2, 2015 I've been using them for the past couple of weeks and have had some success. Water temps here are still only around 65 degrees, so I'm using 3 - 5 sec. pauses on retrieves. Also, I've removed the center treble. Causes too many eye injuries and is not needed for good hook ups. 1 Quote
Danturner Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 Good call on removing the center treble I've noticed the same Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted June 2, 2015 Super User Posted June 2, 2015 I've got 3 now. I was skeptical at first until I used it the first time. Killer action. I love the fact that you can get a nice erratic action without the bait moving as far in the water as a normal jerkbait. My first tourney of the year over on the Mississippi the Shadow Rap tore it up! Quote
johnfl Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I've had great results using this bait. I live in south Florida and went out early Sunday and started throwing the shadow rap deep and every cast I had a fish, caught some biggins. Lots of schoolies had a double. Ended the day with 37 bass boated In 3 hrs. What a day fishing this bait for the first time. I highly recommend the deep version didn't tie the shallow on but I'm sure it will perform with the right conditions Quote
