RyanFishing Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I'm going to be fishing a tournament on Kentucky Lake and I'm gonna be using a big crankbait rod for 5xds to 10xds. What line do you use and what do you suggest using? Thanks! Quote
Bass_Fanatic Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 16lb sunline sniper floro. It has the same diameter of 12lb mono, a little less stretch, and will get your crankbait slightly deeper. It's also very abrasion resistant! Quote
JGBassinAL Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 I use 10 lb. Sunline Sniper. 10 lb. fluoro is the best line for deep crankin IMO. 1 Quote
kcdinkerz Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 Depends on how deep you want it to go, smaller fluro lines will go deeper. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted June 2, 2015 Super User Posted June 2, 2015 I would suggest a little bigger line on the reel throwing the 10XD than I would on your 5XD reel. I personally use 12lb. Sniper FC for most of my deep cranking (10-20ft). If I were to throw an 8/10XD, I'd probably want to use 14/16lb. 2 Quote

X2 Yup - 12lb is fine for the 5 & 6xd (I rarely go lower) but I would definitely recommend going up a bit for the bigger baits; both in tackle & line size. A 10XD weighs in at just under 2 ounces - essentially a hard swim bait - in size & weight anyway. Matching your gear to met the demands of that bait is a solid way to get the most out of it. Good Luck during your tournament btw - that 8xd is a nice size bait - right between the 6 & the 10 - run easy & deep but still has the size . . . A-Jay 1 Quote
dam0007 Posted June 2, 2015 Posted June 2, 2015 10# FC on jerkbaits, crankbaits: shallow, medium and Deep divers for me. Buy 1,000 yard spools and cover multiple reels and save a ton of money. Quote
RyanFishing Posted June 2, 2015 Author Posted June 2, 2015 Thanks for everyone's replies. I have another crankbait rod that tops out throwing the 5xd and have 12 on it and will plan on putting 14 on my big cranking rod. Thanks again! 1 Quote
JGBassinAL Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Just want to say that I have never had a problem throwing a 10XD on 10 lb. test. Tie a good knot and check your line frequently for frays and you will be fine. I want my crankbait to go as deep as possible and to dig in the bottom as hard as it can. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted June 3, 2015 Super User Posted June 3, 2015 10 pound Tatsu fluoro. Quote
