I was Jig Fishing, skipping them under over laying trees. I had a monster hit. Pull up on it and felt something seriously heavy. Thought I had it. Then the jig freed.

A splt second later I see a big moving object surface quickly. I thought it was a big ticked off bass. It was a beaver. He scrambled quickly onto land through the cover and screwed.

I was speechless for a second then LMAO.

Remember this about beavers. They usually are very aggressive and territorial and have accounted for a number of attacks on hikers and fishermen over the years. And they move very fast on land, despite the NatGeo videos.

I hooked one before jumped a few times and broke off they can be really nasty animals

Definately are a fast aggressive creature I wouldn't want to tangle with

They are always ticked at me for standing on there house. They would come out and slap the water with their tail. It's not my fault their habitat is a prime bass attractant, and there are some big gurls hanging out.

I've always been afraid of hooking a beaver, wouldn't know where to begin on how to handle one to get it unhooked. Anyone have any experience with this? For that reason I often stay away from casting near beaver huts even though I know they must be holding fish since they look like amazing cover for a bass.

I was on Tucker behind the first island, There was no evidence of a beaver hut anywhere near by when I started casting.

That's one reason I only tried night fishing from my kayak a few times last year.  After it got really dark out I started to hear all kinds of animal sounds and it scared me.  I didn't want to cast in the dark towards a duck/goose or some other animal with teeth! lol.

My cast and the animal being in that exact spot was a total coincidence.

I have to admit I've heard some of the strangest sounds fishing my spot at night. I am convinced at least one beaver is around there as there was a bit of crashing in the woods followed by a huge splash in the water. I tend to assume the beaver won't hit my lure unless he is defending his area though but man would I ever hate hooking into a beaver AT NIGHT :cry4:
