Removing Fc Line From Bc Reel To "save"

Another thread reminded me. I bought some High Seas line and I think it was 100% FC line. I had been wanting to try FC. It coiled so bad, couldn't use it. Unbelievably, they took it back, yah! But I have a spool full of new line and I was wondering about keeping it to use for leaders. Been wanting to try that too -- FC leader tied to braid for casting soft plastics. Anyone have a tip for removing it and storing it on something? Hmmm... I have an old junk reel, that might work. I hope it still revolves, lol.

I use cardboard paper towel tube which fits over a drill.  The drill brings off the line quickly so I just loosen the drag on the reel to avoid overrun.  Then when I want to put the line on another reel I just put the cardboard tube on paper towel dispenser and spool up.  It works so incredibly well for me.

I just removed 832 braid off a reel that was sent to Mike at DVT for a tuning. I had only used it once. 

I put an empty line spool on a screw driver shaft and then tie the line to it. Put the screw driver shaft into my portable drill chuck and slowly wound it back onto the spool. Make sure the line comes straight up off the backside of the reel spool. Not through the reel guide. Then guide it with your finger when you start the drill. Keep the tension knob set moderately.

 

Works great. 

 

I also use the screwdriver on the drill to remove line. I use the same process but I wind it onto the handle.  I can use the same screw driver all the time because the line removes easily buy griping it on each end and pulling. If it sangs a little I just cut it with a scissor. It slides off in big wound clumps.

 

 

Another thing I do is run all my newly spooled line on my reels out on the lake and then reel them back in. I use a 1/2oz rattle trap with cutoff hooks. The line winds back on the reel spool perfectly.

I have at least 8 empty line spools from used line, which makes it easy to shift line around if I want to keep it for future use.  I put these on a small diameter metal rod in my electric drill and zip.  I hold the empty line spool on the metal rod with two spool holders from my spooling station.
