What's a good jerkbait/Topwater rod for under $150? I'll be pairing it with a lews Lfs.

I personally have not tried/owned one of these but I've heard pretty good things about the Fenwick Elite Tech Bass so that could be something to look at

Lews custom speed stick...will pair perfectly with that reel

Which Model?

I own the topwater Rod but 5/8 would probably be too large for it however the spinnerbait model is rated for heavier topwaters

St. Croix Avid 6'8" M X-fast.  Gander Mountain has a rebate available that would put you close to the amount you specified.

Would the xfast taper work for jerkbaits?

I would prefer a softer tip for jerkbaits and a length of 6'6" but the X-fast would be ideal for topwater.  A good go between would be the 6'8'' M Fast Avid.  I like the fast tip though for topwater walk the dog baits and poppers.

About $40 more and I'd say I love my dobyns 685CB great for both

Edit* a lot of guys like fast or extra fast rods for treble hooked baits. Why, idk. I've tried it and lost fish. Went back to moderate action and no problems.

The 2015 crucial 6ft.8 medium xfast is a great topwater /stickbait rod... spook jr's. , sammys, dog x ect...also a good buzzbait rod.

For $99.00 I enjoy using a 6'10 Medium/fast Duckett Ghost for jerkbaits/topwaters it works very well. I would also recommend the Powell Inferno 6'10 Medium/fast rod it is also very good for this.

I sold my St Croix Triumph and gave a Premier to my nephew last week. I like the Lews better.

From what I held, I would agree that the ghost is also a good option. It definitely has a softer action which I honestly prefer as I tend to use braid
