Super User Raul Posted May 31, 2015 Super User Posted May 31, 2015 anybody use beavers or creatures as jig trailers. Yup, that Castaic Choice Brush Hog black 1/2 oz jig combo has caught me most of my 10+ lbers. GO BIG OR GO HOME ! 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 31, 2015 Super User Posted May 31, 2015 Too many choices of soft plastic trailers! You have a wide variety of craws. Creatures are nearly as plentiful. Soft plastic relies on 2 elements, size and flapping appendages. Pick 1 that suites you and it should work. Nothing can replicate a good pork rind trailer for big if bass. Tom Quote
danno054 Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 I've had good success using a reaction innovations beaver as a trailer. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 31, 2015 Global Moderator Posted May 31, 2015 Full sized brush hog on a big jig is a good way to target just the big girls. Quote
Ozark_Basser Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 I almost always use a beaver for a trailer. I will use brush hogs sometimes too. Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 I have used both and had success with both. My favorite is the Reaction Innovations Beaver... Quote
Super User whitwolf Posted May 31, 2015 Super User Posted May 31, 2015 R.I. smallie beaver for smaller jigs and sweet beaver for larger jigs. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted May 31, 2015 Super User Posted May 31, 2015 Baby Brush Hogs I have used and they work as well as other soft plastics. I also like pork best . As far as plastics I just use whatever. Black Mister Twister double tails have worked real well . Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 31, 2015 Super User Posted May 31, 2015 All the time. Super hogs are one of my best trailers. When they get too beat up to use on a t-rig, they go on the back of a jig. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted May 31, 2015 Super User Posted May 31, 2015 Probably half of the time for my craw trailers. RI beaver and smallie beaver, SK rodent and baby rodent, Missle bait D-bomb, uggly otter, etc. The give you a few things: 1. Additional bulk 2. Subtle action without compared to more agressive trailers 3. More aerodynamic resulting in better casting distance Quote
Super User CWB Posted May 31, 2015 Super User Posted May 31, 2015 I'm with Tom on the pork. Seems to have fallen out of fsvor but just as deadly as ever. I like the Rage Craws and Lobsters in plastics. Quote
JT Bagwell Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 The Yamamoto Flapping Hog is a perfect little jig trailer. It's compact but has a lot of movement. Quote
Canyon explorer Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 I fish the tail end of large Chompers(Hula Grubs), and brush hogs on jigs exclusively when I fish deep brush piles at night. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted May 31, 2015 Super User Posted May 31, 2015 I've experimented with beavers and they have pretty good action. Never tried a creature, though. Quote
Frenchman83 Posted June 1, 2015 Posted June 1, 2015 I like the Berkley Pit Boss and R.I. Beavers. Also like the Brush Hogs and the Poor Boys Bug Bass Getter. I see the beaver and the creature on complete opposite sides of the spectrum regarding action. Quote
War Eagle 44 Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 I've had really good luck with a Smallie Beaver on jigs. I've also had decent luck using a Pit Boss. My new favorite at the moment is a D-Bomb. I'm just so confident in them because I've caught so many fish on them by themselves. I love their bulk, action, and most importantly productivity. Quote
