Rand Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 Looking to buy some new Polarized glasses. I want a good pair for any condition. What would you suggest? What do you have? How much were they? Thanks for any help Rand Quote
booneangler Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Bass Pro has a really good selection. I like Oakley's but there are a lot of good ones out there. I really dont know what is ther better company i would suggest going and trying diferent pairs on and seeing which fit you the best and how you like them. Just remember you get what you pay for. Dan Pitre Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I have Maui Jims and wow they're great and styleish! Cost me around 170ish at Bass Pro. Quote
Ozarkie Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I bought some Maui Jim and dont like them first they dont fit across mybroad nose and second they are brown and seem to make everything bluer in color. I also have a pair of prescription bi-focals (first pair) they are brown but they don't cast the blue hues. Cannot explain why???? Stick with a neutral grey or green, wrap around if you can. Make sure they are returnable because once on the water you may not like them and it sucks to lay out $170.00 and be stuck with a high dollar piece of crap. Ozarkie. Quote
wickyman Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 If you don't like them, there is always the alternatives... You could look for an eyeglass shop that sells used glasses, and see if they will buy them, but at a fraction of the cost, I must say. Or sell them on ebay for slightly less than you paid. I have seen people take a set of maui jim's for like 165 bucks, plus shipping on ebay! Rediculous, but people will pay the few dollars less, just to save! I myself could used a cheap set of polarized wal-mart glasses, and be fine. To me, as long as they help me see the water better, that's all that matters! And remember, if you lose a set of cheap glasses in the water, you could always buy several more pairs for a lot less than you would one very expensive pair! Quote
linesider7 Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Costa Del Mar Hammerhead Green Mirror Wave 580 lenses. Retail $249.99 Again, leaves a mean set of racoon eyes. 8-) Quote
Randall Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Renegade sunglasses at walmart. Less than five dollars . Might not be the best for my eyes but I can see more fish with them than anything else I have tried. If I scratch them or lose them I buy another pair with no worry. Quote
acar555 Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 I really like my Solar Bats with the Mossback lenses. That lens works really well in a wide range of light conditions. http://www.solarbat.com/polarization.cfm Mine cost about $75. I would have bought some others, including Maui Jims and Oakleys, but the let too much light in from the sides which really defeats the purpose of polorized lenses for reducing glare. I think a lot of the polarized glasses are more style than function on the water. Quote
Rob G. Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Costa Del Mar Hammerhead Green Mirror Wave 580 lenses. Retail $249.99Again, leaves a mean set of racoon eyes. 8-) I just got a pair of these same glasses for $50 new. Scheel's clearance. I like them. Quote
skillet Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Depending on what you can spend or want to, check out Wal-Mart. I really do realize the more expensive del mars, oaklys and others are better and probably better for your eyes. I am really hard on sun glasses and the Solar Bats ($14.95) at Wal-Mart do work for me and I don't feel like if I sit on, step on, drop in water or lose them... As Ever, Skillet Quote

I either end up losing or stepping on too many pair to spend big bucks. lol. I haven't tried any others but I've noticed I can see fish very well with these. Quote
BaitMS Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Three words...Costa del Mar Black frame, blue mirror lenses ($180). Paid $130 from internet. Please remember, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! Trust me, you spend over a bill on a pair of sunglasses you WILL be careful with them. I've had mine over a year and am now looking at getting the Costas with the 580 lenses. Quote
bmadd Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Get any pair of Costas you want. Match the color lens to the type of water your going to be fishing. THEN make sure you order you a nice set of Costa Keepers to string them around your neck. The best investment you can buy besides the Costas. Quote
tbone31 Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 You could try cheap glasses with differnt colored lenses to find what you like. Then you could spend what ever you wanted on what you realy want in a brand. I use oakly's with grey lens for sunny days, and solar bats with amber lens for cloudy days. can you believe it my wife bought me the oakly's for christmas. She is awesome!!!! Quote
Red Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 i have the renegade ones from walmart too...20 bucks and they are great...and if they blow off my head while tilting back to sip some coffee on the boat ride...again...big deal...but i would be a tad upset if that happened to a pair that cost 200 bucks! Cliff Quote
KenDammit28 Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Renegades all the way for me. I got mine for 11 bucks, they are an amber/brown color....they work perfectly and I can see a lot with them. The best part is they are cheap and i'm not afraid to fish with em. Quote
eulerentinc Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Costa Del Mar Fathom with blue mirror lens. 180 dollars. I love them. I wear contacts and i have very light blue eyes. i cant go outside on a cloudy day without sunglasses. these are awesome. I have also heard good things about solar bats but ive never tried them. Costa: my buddy has a pair of the fathom's with the amber lens. has had them for several years, atleast 3. last summer he finally had time to box them up and send them to the company for a scratch on the lenses. 3 weeks later he got his sunglasses back scratch free. NO Cost!! just my opinion, you cant go wrong with costas. You get what you pay for!! OH yeah, TRY THEM ON. Comfort is number one!! Quote
Pa Angler Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 You get what you pay for. The cheap Wally World glasses don't have the UV protection your eyes need get a good pair and you'll be able to see when you get older. Polarizing is only a glare reducer and gives zero UV protection also get something that wraps around the sides as UV will penetrate through the sides. You'll either pay now or you'll pay later with vision loss the choice is yours. IF YOU VALUE YOUR EYES AND YOUR VISION GET A GOOD PAIR. Quote
armesjr Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 I have owned both Costas and Maui Jims, both are really nice glasses. Go into any sunglass store and they will tell you these are the best out there. Raybans and bolle are a step below, but are still nice. Personally i would go with the Costas (i have the MP2's), they are geared more to fishing than the Mauis. If your good about not loosing glasses, i would go ahead and drop the dough for a nice pair, you wont be dissapointed. Also, if i were you go try them on the store find what you like, then look for them online. I got mine for like 50 dollars less than what they sold for in the store off the internet. Quote
BadKarma42 Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 I don't have the $ to spend on high end stuff. I recently bought a pair of Peppers at Gander and I like them. Under $30.00. Definatley a difference from the mirrored polarized glasses I have had before. Quote
rdneckhntr Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 I have a $20 pair from GanderMtn. I think the brand was i-gogs... I fished the first time today with them on and they actually make a bigger difference than I thought they would...I dont think im gonna fish without a pair now... Quote
WhiteMike1018 Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 I have a pair of Strike King glasses i bought from dicks for $25.00 But before my next tournament im debating on buying a pair of Costa del Mars or Oakleys. Ill send a $100.00 on a pair. It will last me AT LEAST 5 years. -WM Quote
gopherbass Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 I've had Natives, Oakleys, Solar Bats and numerous cheaper brands. When I got my first pair of Costas I was shocked at the difference. My eyes felt wide open. They're worth every penny, particularly the 580 lenses. I'm considering ordering a 4th pair. Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Are these the same as the polaroid glasses Roland Martin talks about? ;D Sorry, couldn't resist. I do like Roland. Anyway, I am with the Wal-mart/off-brand variety. Have just lost/broke/sat on/dropped/stepped on, etc. too many over the years. I do believe that a person will take better care if you have a $100 pair. I was using a pair of my old cycling glasses for a while that I got from Performance Bicycle for about $30 that were pretty nice. I'm with ZZ Topp - gotta getcha some cheap sunglasses - at least for me anyway. Eddie Quote
Baconstrip Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 http://oakley.com/pd/4673 I got these, but a friend of mine used an employee proform so I only ended up paying ~$100 dollars for them. Quote
