mundell88 Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 I just picked up a strike king sexy swimmer for 4$ at academy in Wichita falls tx. What are some opinions from guys that have or still use this bait? If there worth a darn I May go back and pick up a couple more since I'm on vacation and not sure if my local academy in kc has these same lures for this price. Quote
fisherrw Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 That's a great deal!!! I found a similar deal at sportmans warehouse and stocked up. They are great baits!! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 31, 2015 Global Moderator Posted May 31, 2015 The Academys by me both had King Shads and Sexy Swimmers for that price. I bought a bunch of King Shads. I never liked the Sexy Swimmers but I have no doubt they'd have worked if I'd found the right situation. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted May 31, 2015 Super User Posted May 31, 2015 I found Sebile magic swimmers, Storm Kickin' Sticks, and now the Sexy Swimmers to all be discounted as it seems not many people do well with them despite how awesome they look in the water. I too had the same problem until I met a guy and during talk at the ramp the topic of these types of swim baits came up and I mentioned I gave them a shot but no good results. That is when I got a lesson that, when I tried it, worked incredibly well!! The deal with these baits, at least in the waters I fish, is they are very effective at certain times, almost like a suspending jerkbait, sure, you can use it all season but there are 2 times when it is very effective. The mid spring and mid fall, now you may be saying that a lot of baits are on at those times and you'd be right, but bringing out one of these will get you larger than average fish most of the time. The best water temps I found where in the upper 50s to low 60s, 58 degrees to 63 degrees are the ranges in which I had my best success with these baits and one thing that really helps is visibility, just like jerkbaits, 2 feet of visibility is great, any less and there are better options. Once I learned how effective these baits are I started grabbing them up when they started falling in price, and there are a couple I use at different ends of the temperature range. The Storm Kickin Stick is one I use for water in the upper 50s and switch to the swimming stick or the Sebile magic swimmer when the water is in the 60s and I'd include the sexy swimmer in the same category as the magic swimmer as both have a wider swimming action than the Storm Kickin' Stick. Sorry for the long winded reply but grab a bunch of these at that price and have at it in the fall, you won't miss or lose many fish on these baits either, the fish don't hit them to kill, they flat out try to eat it so have some pliers with you and good luck. 1 Quote
1234567 Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Clayton if youre up for trading some of those king shads for some swimmers let me know. I was looking online for some at a decent price and theyre finally almost gone. Great bait but all mine finally broke at the hinge!! Quote
primetime Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 The key to the Magic swmmer by Sebile for me is making sure they fall correctly, I do well with both the hard and soft magic swimmers, never used the strike king versions, and the storm doesn't seem to be as productive for me as the Sebile but I also have not fished them much so could be a confidence thing...I am always trying to get better with swimbaits and if you watch the Sebile demo's all his fall perfectly, only about 70% fall like that out of the package...If they fall with any odd movements it seems to cause following fish or any fish in the area to back off, I experiment with all swimbaits in some clear ponds and if they fall with any odd movement's it really seems to be a negative que and fish back away....I would imagine the Stike king version is similar and online you can find demo's from almost any lure and it helps to see what it is designed to look like, at least for me so I have a starting point.....Swimbaits are complex but fun to fish and every day is still a learning experience when I throw them. I notice that Sebile has some color's they can't sell and they also used to be way to expensive, now you can find them for $10, I am sure strike king's will be solid as well especially for $4. Strike king makes good lures for most part, I would have more confidence in Strike King than Storm imo. I can say for sure that I do better with the Sebile than I did with the Cabela's version that looked identical but much less expensive, they would fall with odd movements that would turn fish away, for chucking and winding they are all good I would guess.
