If it didn't say "Citica" on the reel I could've swore it was a Curado with a different spool. Those look nice.

Those do look like nice reels. Thanks for posting I'll have to get some of those.

It's about time.  Looks like a curado.  If they keep it around $100, it will be a major competitor in that market.

Its going to be $150 msrp. Probably a little over $100 on ebay

Have you looked at this website? I can't make any sense out of it. No U.S. dollar prices are listed and it seems you must call a restaurant to order. Weird!

Idk. I think I'd rather just spend the extra $30 on the curado...

You mean the $20 less? Curado's can be found for around 130.

Kind of an oddball move by Shimano looking at it from a pricepoint standpoint. They have the Caenan at $89(not all that popular), the Citica has gone from $119 to $149 and the Curado at $179. Looking at full retail they don't really have that solid $100 reel. Obviously with deals to be had and special pricing at times you can find one for well under retail. With the Curado and Citica being so close in price I can see them competing with each other for market share in that price segment. Unless it is a competitive move with Daiwa. The Citica vs the Standard Tatula, and the Curado vs the Type R. As long as sales for both the Citica and Curado stay strong both should be winners. However only time will tell and we will see what happens to prices...

I think the right move for Shimano was to release it at a $100 price point. Lew's is out there releasing solid 10 ball bearing reels for $100, but Shimano with 6 ball bearings and $150? Doesn't really make sense to me. I guess it doesn't matter because Shimano freaks will buy it whether it makes sense or not.

So more bearings makes a better reel huh? I'll take a 6 ball bearing Shimano that they designed and developed, and manufactured from the ground up over a 10 ball bearing cookie cutter reel from Lews(that was designed and manufactured by Doyo) all day long.

"Cookie cutter reel?" A Shimano reel could have all the problems in the world and you people would just keep drinking the Kool-Aid...

Yes "cookie cutter". The Lews of today are all made in the same factory along side Abu Revos, pfluegers, BPS, Ducketts, they share ALOT of the same components because they are essentially all based on what Doyo Korea have available technology wise. LEWS did not develop a dang thing on their reels. Have you noticed all the Lews are pretty much the same design? Lews has to undercut shimano on price and give you more ball bearings because if they cost as much they wouldn't sell as well. So I'll keep enjoying my "kool aid" of knowledge while you can keep drinking from the water fountain of ignorance.

I didn't realize that paying less for more was considered "ignorance." To be totally honest with you, I couldn't care less what factory they're being made in. Lew's reels are workhorses and the best bang for your buck. They support the troops and take veterans on fishing trips. What does Shimano do? Keep overpricing their reels and making everyone think they're some sort of holy grail. You can't even argue the point that an $80-$100 Shimano reel can even compare to a $80-$100 Lew's reel.

No, your previous point was that a 10 ball bearing reel was better than a 5 ball bearing reel. So the ball bearing count is what constitutes what reel is better than another reel according to your flavor of Kool Aid. Shimano never had and ad campaign trying to claim they are the "holy grail" of fishing. This perception was earned through decades of quality reels. There are tons of guys on here with 20+ year old Shimanos still going strong today. And of course you choose to ignore the points I made. Let me try to break it down for you. If the top of the line Lews reel costed $650, would you buy it over a Calais DC? Hell no.. and neither would most anglers. To compete, Lews has to undercut Shimano on price and give you a perception of extra value by loading up their reels with cheap ball bearings that probably cost pennies to the manufacturer. Is this a bad thing? no, but does it make them better than a similar Shimano or Daiwa with less bearings? NO. But hey, loading up a reel with cheap ball bearings is a marketing tactic that fools the sheep, Congrats to Lews on that lol

Have you even tried a Lew's reel? You act like you haven't. Their is absolutely nothing wrong with their bearings. So, in that case, 10bb is better than 5bb. Plus, Shimano doesn't put their best bearings in Citicas. And to answer your question, no, I wouldn't buy a $650 Lew's reel, but I sure as hell wouldn't buy a $650 Shimano reel either. $650 for a reel is outrageous and unnecessary.

Y'all keep arguing. I'll keep fishing my low-end Citicas and Curados and Cardiffs.

I have a Team Lite actually. I has 11 bearings, and my Aldebaran 50 with only 10 bearings is better in every way. Oh and I have a Calais DC too... worth every penny of $650.
