Nothing Crazy, the other day I catch this catfish with no real appreciation. Comes out its a yellow bullhead and the Maryland State record is only 3lb 7oz? Keep in mind I am wearing a size 12 boot in this picture which puts the cat around 16-18"...had a nice belly on it. Sure wish I had a scale last Friday! Made a report to DNR who let me know about the state record as well. Maybe I will go back and try to catch one bigger. Sure would be interesting to have a "State Record"!

That's a fat bullhead!

I remember my very first catfish was a 16" yellow bullhead, but it was rather thin.

If you released it...try catching it again and get a weight on that yellow bull. :)

By the way, what did you catch it with?  Cant quite tell by the pic...a black curly tail grub, maybe?

You got it! Zoom 4" Fat Albert Grub. Black w/red flakes.

I've often thought about trying to catch a state record fish that many people don't specifically target, like Bullheads for example.

Might be fun to have your name in the record books :)

He definetly is pretty fat. Hard to tell but i don't quite think he is the state record. I could be wrong though, like CeeJay said you should try to catch it again. And next time bring your scale!

I think it was likely right around 3lbs or slightly less. I thought it was funny and that I had no idea how close it may have been. Thanks.

A channel cat of similar length will typically weigh around 2 1/4 or 2.5 pounds. Regardless of what it weighs it's an above average bullhead for sure.
