I have done a good amount of research on these 2 reels. I have not held a scorpion nor fished one. I have held a Chronarch but have not fished one. Which would you go with? They are similar in price and just trying to see the differences in the 2. Thanks in advance for your input.

It´s up to you but if I have the money I would go for the Chronarch in an eye blink.

Chronarchs are super fine reels no matter to which series they belong, the best "still affordable" Shimano bait caster your money can buy.

Yeah, I know its ultimately my choice but with very limited hands on with only one reel thought some would have input. I have the New Curado I and i have herd they are similar but the weight is only difference.

thanks for chiming in

I have both the 1001xt and CI4+. I have a lot more time on the water with the CI4+. For most any general purpose use I'd to for the CI4+. I find it more refined, smoother, better feeling of power, and tighter tolerances. I've had my CI4+ reels cleaned/tuned by DVT and now they are killer. I also find them super comfortable.

So far I do enjoy the 1001xt and love the small profile, and likely don't have enough experience with it yet. But I don't feel it has any advantages over the CI4+ at this point other then size and price.

The Scorpion is a very nice reel but it´s not a Chronarch, the level of refinement and the overall feel of the Chonarch is superior to the Scorpion.

Get the scorpion while the current model is still available. Its an all time great.

How would this reel do with casting weightless worms?

Being I haven't held one are the ergonomics of the reel overall good for throwing a bait all day

I'm assuming that you mean the 1000xt scorpion. Its specialty is light baits. I was effortlessly casting and pitching a weightless wacky jackall flickshake long distances a couple of weekends ago. Its the same reel as the Chronarch 50 so its one of the smallest profile reels available. Once you go shimano 50, you won't go back lol

Yes, the scorpion is aluminum framed with graphite side plates.

I really like my Scorpions. I like them just as much as my Aldebarans and Metaniums, if not more. The Scorpion gives little ground to either reel for $100 beens off. Brian.

Brian that is a very strong statement!! That's tipping the scales closer to the scorpion side in my mind.

i own several  of both reels and thats a tough choice. i guess it would come down to is it going to be your only reel? my scorpions get the most use of all my reels super simple , look and feel is just perfect ( I'm a huge shimano 50 fan , imho the best reel ever produced especially if you have a smaller hand). but if i was only  own one reel i would go ci4+ purely because it's a workhorse plain and simple , available in higher gear ratio which is a plus for me , stronger drag should you decide to get into bigger fish or species other than bass and the newer gen brakes have more fine tuning capabilities, not that the old system wasn't great but it's nice to have the option to fine tune when needed. don't get me wrong i have reeled in a few 20 plus lb  pike on my scorpions with no issues but if i was to have only one i'd go ci4+.

There is a significant difference in size, the Scorpion 1000 is the equivalent of the Curado 50, or you can say it´s a burgundy Curado 50, the Chronarch is a full size reel.

I prefer the size of the 50 (or 1000) sizes from Shimano. I haven't had the scorpion, but I have owned both the Curado, Chronarch, Core 51's and still own the Aldebaran BFS. Unless you're looking at using the reel for something that requires a large line capacity I would go for the Scorpion. The Chronarch Ci4+ is a fine reel. I did like it, but I just preferred the other reels. Some people don't like the smaller size but I think most people like the size of the 50's. There are more options in the Ci4+ as far as gear ratios and I feel like both reels will handle the same applications similarly for the most part (again, with the exception of techniques that require a large line capacity). Overall, I don't think you can go wrong either way.

note: those are not the OEM handles on either reel

Did you get rid of them?

i did sell the chronarch...nothing wrong with the reel, just did not like the red bling on the reel. that's exactly the same reason i'm trying to sell my zodias rod now.

i still have the scorpion 1001XT. even though i've only been able to fish with it once in the three years i've owned it, i really dig it and plan to keep it.

You haven't been posting much here or on TT, thought you may have quit fishing lol

Even though I haven't fished a Chronarch CI4+ I still think I'd lean toward the Scorpion just because they're not being made anymore and the Chronarch will be around a while. I'm a huge fan (like many here) of the 50 size Shimano reels. I know both reels are fantastic and definitely worth getting but I'd definitely get the Scorpion first.

As soon as you fish the smaller frame of the Scorpion you'll be "hooked"! They are plenty capable of being an all purpose type of reel in my opinion. They're just great.
