Jed Cutshall Fishing Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Hey guys, My family is taking a vacation to Myrtle beach this year, and while I do the beach, its just too long to be away from fishing. Everyone says to go try deep sea fishing, and that would probably be pretty fun but its just not my idea of a good time. Do you Carolina boys know a lake within close driving distance to Myrtle beach where someone could rent a bass boat for a day or two? Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted May 29, 2015 Super User Posted May 29, 2015 Sorry I don't know of any, the Santee Cooper chain is a couple of hours away. If it was me, I'd go to Little river inlet and fish for reds. The offshore charters there are fairly useless, the gulf stream is about 200 miles offshore in that area. The fishing in between is hit or miss. Although the state record tiger shark about 1700lbs was caught off of the pier just north of the strip in Cherry Grove. As with any touristy beach shark fishing can be good. 2 Quote

Super User retiredbosn Posted May 29, 2015 Super User Posted May 29, 2015 Jeez Boats that last statement is cold, lol.......Al Didn't even think of it that way, lol. To tell the truth if there was a way to roll back or see thru the water at any beach very few ppl would swim. You're never more than 50 to 100 yds away from sharks. Just the way it is. I just got back from Boston and they actually run PSA's up there telling ppl to quit letting their kids swim near the seals. I mean c'mon, its a known great white area (the psa included info on tagged sharks that were back) and ppl let their kids swim with one of the sharks favorite food! IDIOTS! Back to public fishing piers and swimming at the beach. Do yourself a favor and don't swim near them or down current from them. Couldn't tell u the number off ppl I've seen show up with a cooler full of blood and chum for shark fishing at night. I thought that stuff was common knowledge. Quote

But we go to Pawley's Island most years. I take my kayak and go in the inlet and creeks around the island. I caught one flounder first time and two the next year. They'll bite Gulp Mullet on a jig head just like they would real mullet. If you don't have a boat, no problem. People fish off a bridge on South Causeway. Georgetown is just up the road and there are plenty of inshore and offshore charters. The Waccamaw and Black rivers empty there into Winyah Bay. Or you can rent a jon boat at Pawleys Island Outdoors. Derayled2020 Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Hello Everyone, I am new to bass fishing. I honestly havent fished since I was kid. But now I want to dive in and be a successful angler.I live in Summerville SC and would appreciate any advise one may have about the area. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted July 7, 2015 Super User Posted July 7, 2015 Illegal to shark fish in myrtle beach and the sharks must know it. Mind boggling numbers of sharks there Yes, but there's a near-shore reef out of Little River where you can shark fish. I hired a guide once and did it. It wasn't a lot of fun though. Like catfishing to me, which I don't like either. Waste of $$$ but the reds and trout and flounder wouldn't cooperate. Just not from the pier or beach. But the sharks will still bite. Quote

If you have a boat Bushy Park near the Naval wapon station has some good fishing and peir but it can get crowded. Also there is Herbert H. Jessen Public Boat Landing, take Ladson Rd and cross over Dorchester rd passed the (former) bowling ally till the road ends. There is a really nice walking peir through the woods people fish from (you'll see the walking paths on the left side of the boat landing). Edit:On the right side of Bushy park is salt water and on the left side is fresh water. DNR does show up randomly so you better have your license (You should have it any way it's just not worth getting busted). 1 Quote
Derayled2020 Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I am bank bound. I am currently trying out the Herbert Landing pier. I scoped out bushy park and i see what you mean by being busy.I am waiting for my background check for my pass so I can fish the ponds on base. Quote
wytstang Posted July 11, 2015 Posted July 11, 2015 Are you military? My buddy who was stationed here (moved to San Diego Navy base) said they had some good fishing on the Navy base. Quote
