Medium fast, medium heavy fast,not sure ? For crankbaits get a slower Rod. That way you don't rip the hooks out the fish's mouth when they bite. Then for worms you want faster rods so that you can feel the bite and set the hook better. Quote

Other possible rods are Fenwick HMG....or the Elite Tech Bass rods on sale. I am a fan of Fenwick. At that price the *** Blacks are a good option if you don't mind the skinny handle or always cast 2-handed. Lews reels get lots of love, but my only experience with them is the Tournament Pro....a bit over your budget unless bought used. I got lucky and got my like new reel at your budget limit a few years ago. A friend tells me Lews HM85 is a no braner at its current price at American Legacy...$80. The Okuma C3-40X is suppose to be a very good rod at full price. Currently 50% off. Quote

Not bad, but if you have the money to buy better then I'd suggest doing so unless you just want a beater reel to use until you decide to upgrade. I couldn't give you any word on the reliability. microotter Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 I would recommend the lews lfs speed spool off of ebay for about $85 or the Daiwa Lexa off of TW for $70. For the reel I would go for the deals that have recently been posted for the Lews hm85 for $80 or the Okuma rod for around $80. These choices would put you at $165 max and you would have a combo that is quality and originally a lot more money. It would also be below your budget so you can buy line or some lures or whatever.
