A few questions here. I had a big bass on a spinnerbait and had tension on him and of course he ran at me and threw the hook. So immediately I feel in and re cast past where he was and work the bait. Nothing. Tried a worm where he was. Nothing. Tried a senko. Nothing. Does a bass get spooked and get lockjaw after he gets hooked like that? How far will they go to leave the area? I casted all around me for 45 minutes hoping to get him again.

My experience is bass are very wary and will usually not come right back for a second time. An exception would be if you get a good blow up on a top water bait and he misses come right back with a Sinko to the same spot.

p.s. many salt water fish will

I have never seen a bass bite a second time once he has been battled. Howeverif you've just hooked them or ripped it out of their mouth than some aggresive bass will come back for round 2. But if you've hooked him and he threw it... You mine as well move on.

I've seen smallmouth come back after coming off while fishing jerkbaits in clear water, but most of the time if they know they were hooked and come off, they will take off, and you're out of luck.

I was fishing a frog the other day around some lily pads and got a small blowup and set the hook. I felt some resistance but the frog came right back up to the surface. I didn't let it sit at all and started walking it again then probably a second later I got another small blowup and hooked up. The fish turned out to be an eight pounder. When I got her to shore, I noticed the left side of her mouth was torn and bleeding. Was this the fish I missed, or was the wound from winching her out of lily pads with her mouth open? I'm pretty convinced she came back for it.

From my experiences if I stick a fish and the rod bends clear through before they come off, I don't think I've ever caught that fish on a followup cast

Unless that fish was bedding maybe...., if not it's gone. Now if the fish missed your bait, that's a whole other story.

Its possible, but its highly unlikely. You just haveto ask your self if its worth the time to keep fishing for it ar head to a new spot.

I've had quite a few fish come off and then bite again on the next cast. One fish I even hooked up four times before I finally got him in. Those were all bed fish though, quite a different senario. I don't think I've ever had a fish hit twice otherwise. Even following up a topwater miss with a Senko has never worked for me.
