Thornback Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 The most common mistake in spelling I see is: your when you're should be used. Example: Your the best at bass fishing. Correction: You're the best at bass fishing. Or: You are the best at bass fishing. Your should be used as: Your bass is larger than mine. 1 Quote

Super User Fishing Rhino Posted May 28, 2015 Super User Posted May 28, 2015 Our resident spell checker, Long Mike, has been shirking his duties. There was never a spelling error that he did not like to correct. All in good humor of course. The use of their in place of they're, or vice versa (the same for you're and your), and the too, to and two, were the most common targets for his edifications. We come from a much earlier generation where spelling was important in communications. Not so much today. Methinks he has tossed his hands up in frustration with spelling errors and surrendered. 1 Quote

Big C Posted May 29, 2015 Posted May 29, 2015 You'd think since it's a bass fishing forum people wouldn't confuse bass with bass, so often I read where somone caught a bass. You can't catch a bass, you play a bass. A bass is a musical instrument. A bass is a fish. 1 Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted May 31, 2015 Super User Posted May 31, 2015 I sent a text to my wife last night. wife being the operative word. I'd finished grilling our dinner, and she was held up at work My text was supposed to say "taking a quick shower. I smell like grill". The iPhone auto-correct version of this was "taking a quick shower. I smell like girl". Not exactly a message designed to endear oneslf to one's significant other. 4 Quote
Thornback Posted May 31, 2015 Posted May 31, 2015 Some of us are naturally good spellers and some can spell kat. I have to admit I laugh sometimes when I see the way words are misspelled. It's OK, it's the message that's important. I was a printer for many years and being able to spell was a job requirement. I had to take a spelling test to be hired at my last place of employment. That was before computers and spell checkers. Again, I say if you are not a good speller please don't let that keep you from participating in this forum. Heck, you don't need to know how to spell to catch a bass 1 Quote
