Two Rods, One Spinnerbait & One Jig

Can you have a productive day on the water with just two rods, with a spinnerbait and a jig? I have been recently fishing with just minimal tackle at local city park lakes and the freedom of just one rod and a few lures is amazing. I would like to just bring two rods with the aforementioned lures tied on and bring nothing else. Do you guys think that I might have a good day just with these two lures? Thanks.

funny you woul post this because that what I have tied on! yes! very productive! I fish mostly from a float tube. I take a medium *** black for spinerbaits and a 6'6 heavy team daiwa for jigs. if you have only two rods its important to know your waters. I catch more fish and better quality than alot of guys because I know my waters.

Some days I'll just take one rod if I'm trying to learn something. Seems like it's usually just my swimbait rod if I only have 1 rod out, and I've dedicated that time to nothing but tossing the big baits.

Jigs and spinnerbaits are both great lures in the right conditions. If you are looking to increase your numbers you might want to consider mixing in more finesse presentation like a wacky rig, a drop shot, a shaky head, etc....

 

I guess my answer would be yeah those two rods would be enough as long as the conditions are right for those two applications.

Just like blue said, sometimes when forcing myself to learn a new technique I'll just take that one rod and give it all I got.

I'm with DocNsanE, two rods are a good way to be versatile while still being mobile but it has to be the right two. If you are going to use one rod with a spinnerbait, I'd go with something like a shaky head or wacky rig so I'd have my MH casting rod with a medium power spinning rod.

I sometimes miss the days of having 4 or 5 different rods with me.  But I river fish from the bank now, and it's rather cumbersome to bring along too much gear.

I bring one rod now, along with a small selection of very different lures.  Also a pillbox full of several weights and shot, and some extra line and spools for my reels in my backpack....just in case something goes wrong. 

 

Spinnerbaits and jigs are just about as time-tested/proven bass lures as you can get when going simple.    Although I would probably have a topwater handy just in case.

As I get older I've definitely simplified in pretty much every aspect of my angling, and in life in general.

Those are probably two of the best lures if you're only gonna have two tied on!

I fish a jig or spinnerbait 80% of the time. The rest is split up between top water, finesse and crankbaits so those 2 rods sound perfect to me.
