5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 27, 2015 Posted May 27, 2015 Nope, this thread isn't about a bass. :-) I am trying to find the weight of my boat and trailer combo for my tow hitch purposes. 1989 Cajun Bass Boat fiberglass 16ft Johnson 70hp two stroke 12 gallon tank Trailer is aluminum and about 20 feet long. From what I gathered generally on the web I saw similar boats with a full tank is about 800lbs. Motor is about 300lbs. Trailer is about 500lbs. Any ideas??? Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted May 27, 2015 Super User Posted May 27, 2015 Not sure what model you have but you can find it in this list http://boatspecs.iboats.com/Cajun_by_Mastercrafters_Corp.__Bass_Boat__1989/bp/31br1071c11y When estimating weight, I like to always estimate towards the upper end of the spectrum. I think you're pretty close with your estimates but I'd add 75# to be safe. You then have gear, batteries, TM, tools/anchor, etc. I'd ballpark 2000lb -2200 to be safe if you're correct about your boat/trailer/motor. You can just go to any weigh station or local dump /w a scale and back everything up to it and get an exact weight that way. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 27, 2015 Super User Posted May 27, 2015 you can always go to a truck stop and most of them have scales so you could probably weigh the boat and tow vehicle and then just the tow vehicle to give you an idea. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 Great ideas guys. I appreciate it. :-) Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 27, 2015 Author Posted May 27, 2015 I have the Demon Pro. It says it weighs 650 pounds. Does this include the motor too? Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted May 27, 2015 Super User Posted May 27, 2015 I have the Demon Pro. It says it weighs 650 pounds. Does this include the motor too? No, boat weights are listed in hull weight, so it will be boat only. Anything you add to it will be extra including batteries, fuel, water in the livewell, etc., etc. Quote
nicksmurf111 Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Just wondering, what do you plan to tow it with? If you have a full sized truck, just get a class 4 hitch, then you can tow anything up to what the truck is rated at up to 10,000lbs with weight distribution and electric brakes when necessary. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 28, 2015 Author Posted May 28, 2015 My other vehicle not my truck. It is a 2000 Cadillac Deville with a tow package. It can tow 3500 pounds and only has 40,000 miles on it. I put the hitch on it yesterday and it towed the boat and trailer just fine Official weight of my rig is 1650 pounds :-) Quote
nicksmurf111 Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 Yeah, a full sized car should be able to handle that. Does the Deville have the adjustable air ride on the back? Don't forget to go easy on the OD gear. Quote
5 Dollar Fishing Game Posted May 28, 2015 Author Posted May 28, 2015 Just regular springs. No air ride. I drove it easy. Couldn't even tell it was towing. 300 hp Caddy. :-) Quote
nicksmurf111 Posted May 28, 2015 Posted May 28, 2015 My brother-in-law had a slightly older one, it could smoke both front tires. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted May 30, 2015 Super User Posted May 30, 2015 NADA lists the manufacturers weight. Quote
papajoe222 Posted June 3, 2015 Posted June 3, 2015 Just make sure your hitch ball is high enough that the trailer is as level as possible. Too much tongue weight will put too much strain on your suspension and transmission. Quote
